Third edition “30000†of this nicely executed souvenir book issued in the same size as the popular “Boudoir†albumen souvenir photos for the Northern Pacific as its route opened through the Northern United States railroad lands for development across the West and expanding upon the much smaller original 1888 “Northern Pacific Tour.†These lithographs were created by hand-drawn images from photographs and printed using the Glaser/Frey lithographic process using five or more stones to lay down a series of separate shades offering a varnished look. The NP RR souvenir view book includes images of Dakota wheat fields Custer Battlefield monument Crow Indians at Yellowstone Montana cattle roundups and gold mining along the Columbia River with birds-eye views of Butte & Helena MT Spokane WA and salmon fishwheel as well as early birds-eye view of Portland OR. Views of Alaska include Sitka Juneau Totem Poles on Wrangel Island and the glaciers. The piece concludes with birds-eye view of San Francisco. W.C. A large poster on stiff board 33 x 48 cm. white with black ink b.w. photo and aircraft English & mostly Chinese text time tables for departing air craft and schedule. OBSCURE ITEM LIMITED EDITION OF 500 This lovely period poster was printed September 30 1937 in a LIMITED EDITION OF 500 only copies per the colophon at the bottom of the poster. CONDITION: The poster is very clean and obscure. There are 2 very tiny mended closed tears in the right and lower margin else this is a very clean nice copy of a rare item. There is almost no surface soil and a small bump to lower right corner again none of this invades the text at all and can be matted out in a frame. The "CHINA CLIPPER" an early Pan-Am aircraft is shown flying over the city of San Francisco just above Fisherman's Wharf and other piers and North Beach Russian Hill the tower and downtown in the background. The text informs the Chinese community about the new air mail service drop off locations times of pickup and the like. Nicely executed. QUITE SCARCE . unknown

Promotional poster from Pacific Northern Airlines advertising their service to Alaska that features a montage of illustrations depicting skiers a carved and painted totem a fisherman in action and a bear on its hind legs.<br /> <br /> In 1932 Arthur G. Woodley founded Woodley Airways flying routes across Alaska. In 1945 Woodley changed the name to Pacific Northern Airways and moved the company headquarters to Seattle. In 1951 Pacific Northern Airways was able to start running regular flights between Seattle and Anchorage and continued to operate these and its routes within Alaska until it was taken over by Western Airlines in 1967. On the right side of the map are all the ports visited along with a brief sketch of each.
