RARE comprehensive illustrated monograph on the World of Buddha by one of the leading 20th-century scholars of Buddhism - Hajime Nakamura (1912-1999), a Japanese academic of Vedic, Hindu and Buddhist scriptures. Nakamura was an expert on Sanskrit and Pali, Professor in Tokyo Imperial University from 1954 to 1973, as well as the founder of Toho Gakuin (The Eastern Institute). Among his many writings are commentaries on Buddhist scriptures and the first translation of the entire Pali Tripitaka into Japanese, a work still considered the definitive translation to date against which all later translations are measured.
