The visit was crucial in restoring good relations with India following Nixon's tilt toward Pakistan in 1971. Kamath was Washington correspondent for the Times of India from 1969 to 1978. The Fourth Anglo-Mysore War resulted in the death of Tipu Sultan when the British won a decisive victory at the Siege of Seringapatam in 1799.
