Contemporary half calf and marbled boards; all edges and endpapers marbled; spines decorated in gilt in compartments with contrasting gilt-lettered morocco title-labels; covers a little rubbed with the paper chipped or rubbed away from most edges of the boards; minimal signs of age and use; overall in excellent condition with a small contemporary name-label on the front pastedowns. 2 items. 1918215607No publication details. circa1918. Colour pictorial map 25.5 x 38.6cm seven illustrations in inset panels six along lower border with a colour image at upper right. Paper browned and fragile but all small closed tears have been repaired neatly on the reverse making them almost imperceptible on the image. This colour pictorial map is a climbing guide to the summit of Mt Fuji. It shows four different routes to the half way point and two routes to the top. The map includes seven inset panels with illustrations of various well-known points of the climb. The top panel shows the summit with Asama Shrine. All the illustrated climbers are clad in kimonos upon their heads bamboo woven hats as the climb was regarded as a pilgrimage rather than a leisure activity. A stamp received at the fifth stage has been applied to the map just to the right of Mt Fuji. . No publication details. unknown

The frontispiece 'Plan of Weymouth' folds out to roughly 38 x 26 cm with the dimensions of the print roughly 26 x 22 cm. Engraved beneath the print: 'J. Ham Delin. Engraved by B. Baker for Harveys New Weymouth Guide'. Unbound and stitched in original plain wraps. Tight and with text and image clear and entire but a little dogeared with damp staining to map and at foot of rear and with wear and staining to wraps. Informative and attractively produced. Two pieces of information help to date the item: BBTI gives Virtue's trading dates as 1798-1800 and the last M.P. named is Sir James Pultney in 1796. Scarce. A detailed toponyms list titled "Verzeichnis der mit Ziffern bezeichneten öffentlichen Gebaude" under the sections A: Pera und Galata, B: Stambul, C: Skutari; and "Erlauterung der Abkürzungen". Some toponyms are transcripted Turkish into western characters like Karadenis - Bahr-i Siach, Burgas Adassi, Kisil Adalar, Jeni Djami, etc. A rare Istanbul map printed in 19th century.
