Dix sports sont traités : course de haies boxe lancement du disque rugby course de vitesse tennis football épée lutte et natation. Cette version est celle destinée au public espagnol de la « Coleccion de la Kolarsine et de la Solucion Pautauberge ». Elle est encore plus rare que la série française qui se décline en deux éditions et un texte différent au verso. Les laboratoires Pautauberge fondées à Paris en 1887 portent le nom de leur créateur inventeur de la « Solution Pautauberge » un chlorhydro-phosphate de chaux qui traite les affections pulmonaires. Later approx. 1821-1860 tan calf binding by Clarke & Bedford of Frith Street their ink stamp to upper corner ffep verso spine richly gilt with raised bands; gilt centrepiece borders and dentelles to each board a.e.g. marbled endpapers. Joints slightly creased a little wear to endcaps but very good indeed. Centrepiece gilt arms of John Frederick Campbell 1st Earl Cawdor 1790-1860. Campbell married in 1816 and succeeded his father in 1821 and these arms appear to postdate both of those events. Campbell was a Fellow of the Royal Society MP for Carmarthen 1813-1821 and Lord Lieutenant of Carmarthenshire 1817-1860. Ownership inscription of J. Campbell in an old hand to blank leaf preceding title-page. A reprint of the second edition London 1570 of Matthew Paris's important historical chronicle formerly attributed to the fictional 'Matthew of Westminster' as edited by Matthew Parker. The text covering the period to 1259 is based on the author's Chronica Majora; the 1259-1307 text was compiled and composed by various writers at St. Albans and Westminster; the text from 1307 to 1325 is by Robert of Reading. Illuminated manuscript on vellum approx. 160 x 120 mm written in two columns of 50 lines in a fine compact Gothic textura characteristic of Paris university production. Contains the beginning of the Psalter opening with Psalm 1: " Beatus vir qui non abiit in consilio impiorum." and continuing through the early verses of Psalms. Decorated with a large blue intitial "B" introducing Psalm 1 richly heightened with red and blue pen-flourishing extending into the margins. Additional red and blue paragraph marks throughout. Light ruling visible. Condition is very well preserved. Vellum clean and smooth; ink strong and unfaded; initials bright. Minor handling wear at edges; tiny tears at former binding edge slight waviness as typical. Overall a very good plus for a manuscript of this date. Kiki was one of the most colorful and well known inhabitants in Paris in the 1920s; she worked as an artist's model impromptu cafe performer and lover to Man Ray and other artists. Kiki's memoirs are a lively account of the bohemian lifestyle typical among the artists in Paris during the 1920s with an introduction provided by Ernest Hemingway. She tells of her encounters with Man Ray Tsuguharu Foujita Moïse Kisling Jean Cocteau Kees van Dongen Chaïm Soutine and others. 18909185Paris: Kuhn Paris Photographic Co. 1890. Hardcover. Very good . Oblong octavo 36 photographs each mounted to a cardstock leaf rectos only. Each photograph measures about 5.75" x 3.75" 14.5cm x 9.5cm and is mounted to very slightly curved cardstock mounts bound into a cloth casing. The prints are in excellent condition quite well-preserved; near fine. But for some mild rubbing the fragile binding is sound and clean. Fir front free endpaper made of brittle paper is detached and laid-in with a few chips. A fantastic group of well-composed views of notable Paris spots including the Place de la Concorde the Bois de Boulogne the Eiffel Tower the Paris Opera the Porte Daint-Denis and many more. The street scenes are lively with a number of horses and carriages. Given the presence of the Eiffel Tower and utter lack of automobiles we can date it to no earlier than 1889 and no later than about 1900. OCLC records five holdings of another similar viewbook by the same photographer but the dimensions and number of prints is different. This example appears to be unrecorded by worldwide libraries and we could not find any similar examples in recent auction sales. A scarce and attractive Paris viewbook dating from the "Belle Epoque.
