020102Georges Darboy (1813-1871), évêque de Nancy puis archevêque de Paris, fusillé par la Commune le 24 mai 1871. L.A.S., Paris, 14 février 1849, 4p in-8. Longue et belle lettre à un magistrat, probablement originaire de Fayl-Billot comme Darboy, à qui Darboy veut faire obtenir une place, notamment grâce à des recommandations d'Hippolyte Chauchard (alors député de la Haute-Marne) et de Stanislas Migneret (avocat ayant exercé à Langres où il a été adjoint au maire, il est sous-préfet au moment de ce courrier). Darboy ne laisse toutefois pas trop d'espoir à son ami : « il y a plus de facilité d'obtenir une justice de paix. C'est le côté où peut-être il vaut mieux porter son attention et ses efforts ». Il lui demande sa décision pour agir en conformité avec. La dernière page est très intéressante. Darboy, qui est connu pour être un républicain - chose peu commune pour un religieux de son époque -, regrette que « tout [soit] devenu une pure question de force » dans la France d'alors : « Si Bonaparte se pousse à l'empire ou s'y laisse pousser, les fidèles des dynasties déchues et les républicains lui susciteront des obstacles au-dessus de ses forces. Dans l'impasse où nous somme, je ne vois d'issue logique que l'acceptation de la forme républicaine que beaucoup repoussent ». Il a ainsi peur que cela finisse en guerre civile. Déchirure anciennement réparée. Très longue et belle lettre. [482]
