First edition of the piecemaster of the anatomist who did much to condense and systematize the anatomical knowledge of his time. Popular among teachers and students, the book was widely used as a text for nearly a century after its publication. -Winslow (1669-1760) Danois d’origine, fut médecin spécialisé en anatomie. Le présent ouvrage est considéré comme l’oeuvre anatomique la plus importante du XVIIIe siècle. Winslow fit en effet beaucoup pour condenser et rassembler les connaissances anatomiques de son époque et rejeter toute hypothèse hasardeuse, il fut très utilisé par les professeurs et les étudiants. On lui doit les termes de “grand et petit sympathiques” encore en usage aujourd’hui. Cet ouvrage contient le fameux discours de Stenon sur l’anatomie du cerveau dont l’édition originale de 1669 est très rare. Morton 1314.

L’opera è divisa in dieci libri, i quali contengono in un’ampia esposizione tutta la materia medico-legale e fuono considerati come un testo classico non solo in Italia, ma in Europa. Tutte le questioni che l’A. sottopone sono risolte con l’autorità di medici e di giureconsulti, con la citazione delle più importanti norme legislative di ogni tempo; nell’ultimo libro si trovano 85 consigli, responsi e decisioni dei Tribunali (raccolti da Lanfranco Zacchia suo nipote), cosicchè, per chiunque voglia occuparsi a fondo di questa disciplina, il libro di Zacchia costituisce una miniera preziosa di cognizioni importantissime. Così Castiglioni, p. 563. “Paolo Zacchia (1584 - 1659), medico del Papa Innocenxo X e Protomedico Generale di tutto lo Stato Ecclesiastico, e l’uno dei più dotti uomini del XVII secolo, era nativo di Roma. Coltivò egli le belle lettere, la poesia, la musica, la piattura, la giurisprudenza, la teologia, e tutte le altre scienze, il che non impedì di essere uno dei più periti medici del suo secolo; non mancò chi il chiamasse il Mercurio dei Medici e dei Giureconsulti, e chi l’Ermete italiano.. La sua opera "Quaestionum Medico-Legalium" è eccellente; vi si trova molta erudizione, e giudicio, ed è necessaria ai teologi che applicano allo studio dei casi di coscienza.” Così Eloy “Dizionario sotrico della medicina”,VII, p. 281. Il Haller ne parlò con un plauso grandissimo; il Portal, un secolo e mezzo dopo la pubblicazione di quest’opera, chiedeva che essa fosse pubblicamente spiegata in tutte le Università di Francia; il Platner ne loda l’erudizione profonda; non vi è opera che tratti di quest’argomento fino al principio dell’800, nella quale non si ritrovino le tracce della poderosa impronta lasciata da quest’uomo veramente geniale”. "Lind, founder of naval hygiene in England, wrote a classic treatise on scurvy, in which he described many important experiments he made on the disease. These experiments have been called "the first deliberately planned controlled therapeutic trial ever undertaken". Lind showed that in preserved form citrus juices could be carried for long periods on board ship, and that, if administered properly, they would prevent the disease. Occasional spotting mainly affecting first and final leaves of each volume. A very nicely bound copy. [FRENCH VERSION FOLLOWS] Edition originale rare. Reliures à la bradel en plein papier à la cuve, pièces de titre de maroquin noir, reliures modernes signée Goy & Vilaine. Notre exemplaire comporte bien les quatre photographies tirées sur papier fort dont deux en frontispice et une dépliante. Ouvrage illustré de nombreuses figures in-texte en noir et un spectre des couleurs. Quelques rousseurs affectant surtout les premiers et derniers feuillets de chaque volume. Exemplaire très agréablement établi.
In 4 (mm 235 x 165) ff. 285, 1 bianco, 32, buona legatura (seppur con i piatti rimontati) in pergamena, titolo manoscritto al dorso.La vita dell'autore precede una bordura a pagina intera che incorpora i ritratti di Fracastoro e Naugerio entro tondo. Alcuni diagrammi nel testo e capilettera ornati. Prima edizione di questa interessante raccolta postuma degli scritti di Fracastoro. Oltre all'Homocentrica sono contenute altre opere di carattere scientifico e filosofico. De causis criticorum dierum libellus. De sympathia et antipathia rerum liber unus. Naugerius, sive de Poetica Dialogus. In fine il De vini temperatura sententia (pp. 225-234, pubbblicato nel 1553) e il celebre Syphilidis, sive morbi gallici Particolarmente interessanti sono il De contagionibus et contagiosis morbis... (1546) in cui il concetto di contagio viene per la prima volta posto chiaramente in luce. Interessante notare che oltre che nell'Homocentrica anche nel Turrius, sive de Intellectione Dialogus il Fracastoro si occupa di lenti e parla di ''specilla ocularia'' ma pone l'argomento sotto il titolo ''Deceptiones'', considera cioè un inganno la visione attraverso le lenti. V. Ronchi (Scritti di ottica, pp. 39-41) respinge decisamente l'ipotesi che Fracastoro avesse messo insieme un cannocchiale e suppone invece che usasse due lenti sovrapposte. Una gora e carta brunite interessano le segnature A e B. Elegante edizione, ottima la conservazione con ampi margini e carta fresca (gore ai primi 10 ff.) e croccante. Al contropiatto anteriore ex-libris inciso tardo settecentesco - con stemma marchionale della panoplia con lo scudo con al centro una stella - della famiglia Dionisi, tra le più antiche della nobiltà di Verona: il marchese Gabriele (1719-1808) fu l'artefice della ristrutturazione della villa a Ca' del lago di Cerea nonché del riordino e aggiornamento della biblioteca. La famiglia Dionisi aveva destinato al piano nobile la funzione di libreria e sala di lettura, precoce esempio di centro culturale dove si riunivano artisti e letterati. Dopo la dispersione delle migliaia di volumi del fondo antico, conserva ora i libri sul mobile d'arte contemporaneo della Fondazione Aldo Morelato.
