Nowadays, the growth of unemployment among the educated youth is one of the critical problem in Ethiopia. Most of the young people in Ethiopia are attaining their formal education with the hope of leading a better life and to improve their livelihood. Even though, young people and their families placed their expectations and hopes on education which is associated with upward social mobility and improvement of livelihoods, but in reality most of the youth in their post schooling life have to face unemployment challenges and to remain jobless for a long period of time. Unemployment rate still existed across boundaries. One of the major problems of youth is unemployment, affecting youth from all walks of life in this modern era. Mainly, it is in urban areas the unemployment continues to be serious social problems in Ethiopia despite some improvements in recent years. The intensity of the problem is high in Addis Ababa, the prime city of the country. Therefore, this research study was conducted to assess the youth unemployment rate and its effect in case of Yeka sub- city, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia , with the goal of providing a better understanding of its prevalence. This book includes the major causes of unemployment for educated youth, and focused on the socio economic effects of unemployed educated youth. This book helps to those who work with youth welfare and youth development organizations and enriches the knowledge on youth issues. And also helps in planning the youth development programmes and promotes the qualitative services among the youth. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Dr. Karanam Viswa Bhushan, Associate professor of social work who has been working in Maharaja's Post graduate college(awarded 'A' Grade by NACC) since two decades (affiliated to Andhra university) Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh, India. He successfully completed the employment contract under Unite Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for two years as Associate Professor in Ethiopian Civil Service University, Ethiopia. During this tenure a lot of research work was done in various social issues. He secured his Bachelor's, Master's (Post Graduation) and Doctoral degrees in social work from Andhra university and awarded first rank with gold medal at post graduation studies. His area of specialization is community development. He secured International certificate in community development and Adult education at Nijmegen University, Netherlands. He has participated in several National and International (Belgium, Sweden, Netherlands, Germany, Thailand ,Malaysia and Canada) seminars, conferences and workshops and enriched with the knowledge of social work education. He has zeal of learning and great aptitude towards teaching and research. He has delivered guest lectures in several universities in Canada, Belgium and Germany. His focused areas are capacity building, empowering women groups (SHG' S, DWACRA'S), child education and health, youth development , Awareness building on social issues, community development in urban slums, rural and tribal areas. He has published several books on different social issues. Training programmes to personnel of the Non Governmental organizations and consultant services to Local, National and International organizations. He has good network with the NGO'S and promoted several programmes for the community development. He has Life membership in several National associations of social work education.
