Per Wikipedia David Hartley Frs 1705 - 1757 Was An English Philosopher And Founder Of The Associationist School Of Psychology. Like John Locke He Asserted That Prior To Sensation The Human Mind Is A Blank Slate. By A Growth From Simple Sensations Those States Of Consciousness Which Appear Most Remote From Sensation Come Into Being. And The One Law Of Growth Of Which Hartley Took Account Was The Law Of Contiguity Synchronous And Successive. By This Law He Sought To Explain Not Only The Phenomena Of Memory Which Others Had Similarly Explained Before Him But Also The Phenomena Of Emotion Of Reasoning And Of Voluntary And Involuntary Action. His Attempts At Explicit Albeit Somewhat Obvious Analysis Of The Mechanics Of Mental Activity Laid An Important Framework Of Discussion For Subsequent Academic Psychology.

J. It wasn't until Beck published his "Basic Processes" in 1944 that some measure of uniformity was achieved and the test achieved the form in which it is implemented today. John Haslam 1764-1844 was an Apothecary or Medical Officer at Bethlem Hospital Bedlam and afterwards the Governor of St. Luke's Hospital. Haslam was one of the most knowledgeable practitioners in his field. However according to Hunter and Macaplpine his attitudes toward patients were rather "harsh and unfeeling." In 1816 scandals arose over poor patient care at Bethlem Hospital and Haslam was dismissed from his position perhaps unfairly. The "Observations on Madness" was first published in 1798. Haslam however considered the second edition with its many additions to be his magnum opus. It remained the standard work for a number of years. Hunter and Macalpine pp. 632-39.

J. Per Wikipedia: John Dollard 1900 - 1980 Was An American Psychologist And Social Scientist Known For His Studies On Race Relations In America And The Frustration-Aggression Hypothesis He Proposed With Neal E. Miller And Others. Dollard Is Likely Best Known Within The Psychological Community As A Member Of The Distinguished Group Of Young Researchers Among Whom Was Neal E. Miller At Yale University In The 1930S Who Inspired Initially By Clark L. Hull Sought To Combine Learning Theory And Psychoanalysis. The Groups' First Major Publication Was Frustration And Aggression And Has Become A Classic Which Is Still Widely Cited In Introductory Texts. It Outlined A View Now Referred To As The Frustration-Aggression Hypothesis Which Formed The Basis For Later Developments Such As Leonard Berkowitz's Aggression: A Social Psychological Analysis 1962 And The Animal Research On Frustration And Aggression In The 1960S And 1970S Which Caused A Controversy Between The Researchers And Animal Rights Groups. Miller Sums Up Dollard's Contributions To The Group As Such: "If Trying To Bring Together Contributions From Sociology Anthropology Psychology And Psychotherapy No Longer Seems So Novel It Is Because Dollard And Other Pioneers Had The Courage And Tenacity To Break Through Traditional Barriers".

Yale University Press hardcover
