On "New York Public Library" letterhead this form letter partly typed in acknowledges and thanks a book gift to the library -- in this case Gates' privately published booklet "Amberglow of Abraham Lincoln and Ann Rutledge." Lydenberg's miniscule signature could easily be mistaken for printed but is actually authentic and original. unknown

S.R. Mallory" in thick brown ink also noting his address as "Pensacola Fla." Congress first printed this commemorative volume in 1897 thus dating this signature; it sold well enough that a second printing of 4000 sets appeared in 1901. An attractive piece. unknown

An inscription has been written on the front flyleaf by the author "'The Times' with compliments of the writer". Some pencilled marks in text which is lightly toned with occasional small toned spots. Josiah Staunton Moore 1843-1913 was a Private in Company B of the 15th Virginia Regiment in the Civil War. He was captured at Five Forks on April 1 1865.
