By way of illustration accompanied by a superb 3½" X 5½" picture postcard showing Devine and Guy Madison in buckskin outfits guns drawn in their roles as "Wild Bill Hickok and Jingles" their popular Western series from 1951-58 with facsimile signatures of each below their images. Dewey signs the blank lower left corner of a typed signature request from future noted Lincoln and Civil War scholar Arnold F. Gates 1914-93 of Cleveland Ohio. Writing Dewey as New York City prosecutor Gates notes: "After reading a great deal about your great work in New York I am taking the liberty of asking for your autograph" -- adding earnestly "Please send it to me for my small collection surely needs it!" Accompanied by a superb glossy 9" X 7" black and white news agency photograph International News Photos depicting a smiling Dewey standing alongside his wife as she signed a large open book on a table. Original mimeographed paper label neatly affixed to verso dates this image 6 October 1951 and titles it "Governor's Lady Insures Eligibility to Vote" describing the scene: "Mrs. Thomas E. Dewey is shown signing the book as she registered at Public School 18 this morning. Looking on are Governor Dewey and election board chairman." 42436This successful Ohio-born industrialist investor and businessman practiced law and entered politics in New Mexico serving in Congress 1873-77; he served in the Union Army during the Civil War father and brother joined the Confederacy and was filled with disgust over the carnage and cruelty he witnessed so when Benjamin Harrison appointed him Secretary of War in 1891 no one felt the irony more than he but he served until 1893; later he served West Virginia as U.S. Senator 1895-1911. Big bold "With regards of / S.B. Elkins / Nov 10./85" on a 5 3/4" X 2" heavy stock buff slip n.p. Very good. Bit of irregular inoffensive offsetting from long-ago acidic contact. Judging from the paper stock almost certainly the top portion of a pamphlet likely of a speech Elkins gave such as the 1885 "The Industrial Question in the United States" an address he gave before the Alumni Association of the University of the State of Missouri June 3 1885 published in 36 pages by Styles & Cash in New York. Signature and inscription on a 4¼" X 3 3/4" slip n.y. Very good. Small mounting trace on verso. Bold and sloppy "With many apologies / for my long delay / GM Fenn / Syon Lodge / Isleworth / England." Rather uncommon. Syon Lodge was Fenn's residence in Middlesex the county adjacent to London in which Fenn amassed a library of some 25000 volumes -- presumably some of them not penned by himself. unknown

Quite attractive printed lined form on which a telegram message would be written out longhand -- signed boldly by Hall presumably for a fan encountered in a Western Union office. Nice example from the height of his fame. Original mimeographed paper label neatly affixed to verso dated 3 June 1947 captions this image "La Guardia Is Heard on Rents" and explains: "As the Senate backtracked yesterday and knocked out an amendment adopted last week directing monthly decontrol of 30 of the nation's rent areas Fiorello La Guardia began a personal campaign among members of Congress against what he termed the 'blackjacking' Senate bill. La Guardia head of the National Fair Rents Committee is shown with characteristic flourish stating at a Senate Office Building conference that he opposes particularly the Hawkes Amendment which would allow landlords and tenants to enter into leases extending to Dec. 31 1948 at not to exceed 15% more than the rent existing last Sept. 1. unknown
