Tak played first violin with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra from 1903 to 1905 when he penned this excerpt from the Violin Concerto in D major which became one of Beethoven's best-known violin concertos. 22771The youngest daughter full name Anna Cabot Lodge Quincy Waterston of Boston Mayor and Harvard president Josiah Quincy dabbled in the arts writing poems "Verses" 1863 nonfiction "Adelaide Phillipps: A Record" 1883 and Unitarian hymns; in 2003 her diary was published "A Woman's Wit & Whimsy: The 1833 Diary of Anna Cabot Lodge Quincy" chronicling the life of a 21-year-old aristocrat on the Harvard campus. Bold attractive "With many pleasant memories / of our visit to your happy and / beautiful home I shall / always be your affectionate friend / Anna C.L. Waterston / Fort Washington / 1862" on a 5" X 3¼" slip. Near fine. It's interesting that Fort Washington 16 miles south of Washington DC was built in June of that year 1863 for the New York State Militia during the Gettysburg Campaign so clearly this must have been penned there in the months immediately following its construction. Gates 1914-93 noted Lincoln and Civil War scholar and cancelled in Emporia on 8 January 1935. Near fine. Accompanied by a superb glossy 8½" X 6½" black and white news agency photograph International News Photo depicting a large head-and-shoulders bust of White with three persons standing alongside. Original mimeographed paper label neatly affixed to verso dated 21 March 1947 titles this scene "Unveil Bust of Famed Editor" and describes it: "Shown beside the bronze bust of the late William Allen White famed editor of The Emporia Kansas Gazette as it was unveiled today at the French Galleries 210 East 57th St. are the Hon. Ora Rindon mayor of Emporia; Mrs. William Allen White the widow and Jo Davidson the sculptor. After being exhibited in New York the bust will be shipped to Emporia and later placed permanently in the proposed new courthouse. unknown
