Edition originale de cette Importante étude de critique littéraire. Bel exemplaire. André Wurmser, né à Paris le 27 avril 1899 et mort à Paris le 6 avril 1984, est un journaliste et écrivain français. Il a également écrit sous le pseudonyme de Casimir Lecomte. Il fut notamment secrétaire du Comité de vigilance des intellectuels antifascistes (1934-1939), rédacteur en chef de la revue Russie d'aujourd'hui (1937-1939), membre du comité directeur des Amis de l'Union soviétique, et éditorialiste au journal L'Humanité (1954-1984). En plus de son activité journalistique, André Wurmser poursuit son travail littéraire. Il publie notamment en 1964 cette étude approfondie de l'œuvre de BALZAC sous le titre : La Comédie inhumaine. Ce travail lui inspire cette remarque quelques années plus tard : « Un peu de balzacianisme éloigne du communisme, toute la comédie humaine y ramène ».

Very scarce. <br/><br/>Attracted by the ideals of the "Declaration of Independence" Fanny Wright traveled extensively through the U.S.A. tracking how those ideals were being realized. In France who became almost like a daughter to Gen. Lafayette. She and her sister returned to America and with Lafayette were guests of Jefferson at Monticello. Later as a U.S. citizen she founded the Nashoba commune in Tennessee in anticipation of emancipation. She visited New York and Philadelphia West Point Niagara Falls Lake Errie and on to Lower Canada Montreal Lake Champlain Burlington Vermont Washington D.C. to Virginia with many observations along the way. This edition has a dedication to Lafayette by the translator who also supplied a new translation. Vol. 1 ends with remarks upon Morris Birkbeck's letters about the Illinois country. All in all Fanny Wright became one of the most remarkable women of the first half of the 19th century: among other accomplishments being the first woman to write this work the first travelogue by a woman.
