Lightly browned minor chipping paper flaw to top left hand corner with small amount of loss otherwise clean. Theatre playbill for the first night of 'Spirit of the Waters! Or Undine and the Goblin Page' starting on the 9th March 1829 with "entirely new music scenery dresses decorations most extensive and entirely nouvelle machinery and unique effects" a "fountain of real water" and "combined splendour of fire and water united in unequalled brilliancy!". The actors included Mr. Leach "the extraordinary dwarf who has been engaged expressly to aid this piece and who will introduce a variety of astonishing feats peculiar to himself and excelling every display of extraordinary agility hitherto witnessed!". 17833The first on letterhead of Anfield Hay Douglas Isle of Man; the second from Douglas. 3 and 31 December 1896. Both letters 2pp. 12mo. Both in good condition on lightly-aged paper with tape from previous mounting adhering along one edge and in one case overlapping a few words including the signature. The two letters concern a concert 'at the Grand Theatre on 7 January' 'entirely of Manx music' in which the recipient has agreed to sing. Having put her down for two songs he sends her 'our Book out of which all the items of the concert will be taken' with suggestions of two songs and three encores. The second letter gives details of the rehearsal in Fort Street. 'We are trying to have all the songs accompanied by the Orchestra. I hope you will not object. If you prefer the pianoforte - it will be there also.' He complains: 'Miss Wood has failed me. A cold has made her singing impossible. I am extremely sorry. I hope for your own sake & mine that this wretched weather is not affecting your voice.' The discs are so old and of such poor quality that we cannot risk them for short-wave transmission. It is most disappointing."
