That distinguished Orientalist, certainly the greatest living authority on the primitive culture of the Turko-Tartaric peoples, who is as familiar with Uzbek epics and Uiguric didactics as with the poetical masterpieces of Western Europe, is enthusiastic in his praises of these folk-tales.

Very Good Turkish Paperback. Roy. 8vo. (24 x 17 cm). In Turkish. 84 p. Pançatantra masallari. Panchatantra (Five treatise) is an ancient Indian collection of interrelated animal fables in Sanskrit verse and prose, arranged within a frame story. The surviving work is dated to about 300 BCE, but the fables are likely much more ancient. The text's author is unknown, but has been attributed to Vishnu Sharma in some recensions and Vasubhaga in others, both of which may be fictitious pen names. It is likely a Hindu text, and based on older oral traditions with "animal fables that are as old as we are able to imagine". First Edition.

Numerose fotografie a piena pagina. Edizione originale. Filippo Pedrocco, in, The Glory of Venice, Art in the Eighteenth Century, 1994, ch. VIII, p. 290, & fig. 190. Cohen-de Ricci 410.
