Volume in 16° piccolo legato in tela, titolo al tassello al dorso, sguardie, antiporta col ritratto laureato del Cantore di Laura, frontespizio inquadrato, altro frontespizio anch'esso inquadrato, 237 pp., 5 carte d'indici. Piccolo gioiellino con le rime immortali di Petrarca in correttissima edizione. In ottimo stato, intonso ancora in buona parte.
Due volumi in folio (cm. 34,5 x 25), legati in pelle, titoli al tassello al dorso, sguardie decorate, tavola d'antiporta, frontespizi, prefazione, biografia del Petrarca, LIX (1) 357 (3) pp.; (6) 444 (6) pp., 9 splendide tavole f.t. incise in acciaio ed all'acquaforte da Morghen, Gandolfi, Lose ed altri mastri incisori. L'opera che si presenta è un fiore all'occhiello per i bibliofili, si tratta della splendida e correttissima edizione delle Rime del Petrarca, frutto dello studio e delle attentissime cure del celebre professore Antonio Marsand, la stesura della quale cominciò il 27 di ottobre del 1818 e terminò il 22 febbraio 1820 ed il mese di aprile dello stesso anno fù pubblicata (come citato al colophon). Marsand, appassionato cultore del Petrarca, realizzò un’edizione filologica superiore alle precedenti, in un’epoca in cui il codice autografo contenente la redazione definitiva delle Rime non era ancora stato ritrovato. Dopo una rigorosa collazione di tutte le versioni esistenti, Marsand sottopose le lezioni di alcuni passi al giudizio dell’Accademia della Crusca e scelse un testo basato sulle edizioni più accreditate al suo tempo, avvalendosi di quelle condotte sugli autografi per eliminare le varianti (soprattutto, in particolare, l'edizione di Martino de Septem Arboribus stampata in Padova nel 1472 a cura di Valdizocco, la celebre di Aldo in Venezia 1501 colla soprintendenza di Pietro Bembo e quella di Stagnino in Venezia 1513 per studio di Marsiglio Umbro Forsempronese). Dato il carattere filologico del lavoro svolto, Marsand non aggiunse notazioni critiche ai componimenti, limitandosi ad apporre a ognuno di essi un breve cenno al contenuto e preferendo piuttosto corredare l’opera di appendici storico-bibliografiche molto precise, nonché di pregiate incisioni quali i ritratti di Laura e Petrarca, rispettivamente a opera di R. Morghen e P.M. Gandolfi (di tutte le incisioni presenti nell'opera viene spiegato il motivo della scelta e la collocazione). Fino al riconoscimento della redazione definitiva delle Rime nel codice della Biblioteca apostolica Vaticana (1886), quest’opera costituì un riferimento per le successive edizioni italiane di Petrarca, non ultime quelle di G. Leopardi (Le Rime di F. Petrarca, Milano 1826), personalmente conosciuto dal Marsand, e di G. Carducci (Rime di F. Petrarca sopra argomenti storici, morali e diversi..., Livorno 1876). Fra i giudizi favorevoli suscitati dall’opera, figurano quello dell’amico Vincenzo Monti, (in Giorn. arcadico, febbraio 1821, pp. 206-219), nonché la recensione apparsa nella Biblioteca italiana (giugno 1820, pp. 287-295) ed anche un interessante saggio intitolato "DELLA EDIZIONE LE RIME DEL PETRARCA PUBBLICATE PER OPERA E STUDIO DEL PROFESSORE MARSAND. RELAZIONE DEL PROFESSORE MENEGHELLI" dalla Tipografia della Minerva, Padova 1820 (opuscolo in 4° di 18 pp. nn.) che, data l'attinenza e l'interessante contenuto, ci pregiamo unire in omaggio. L'opera è eccezionale per completezza ed accuratezza, bel carattere tipografico, amplissimi margini, carta forte e chiara, incisioni di splendida fattura e nitidezza. Di assoluto prestigio internazionale e di notevole rarità. La si presenta perfetta, in barbe, fior di stampa.
In 32° (mm. 80x45), deliziosa leg. in piena pelle coeva, filetti a secco ai piatti, tagli dorati, pp. (6nn)-257-(9nn). Ritratto del Petrarca all'antip. e frontespizio incis. The story of Petrarch's love for Laura is well-known but the spirituality and complexity of this love and the cataclysmic loss he felt at her death can be understood only by reading this cycle of his poems. Bound in a modern 1/4 red morocco over marbled boards with matching marbled endpapers. 5 raised bands gilt-rule and gilt-devices within the compartments. A solidly VG copy with very light staining confined to the upper inner margins of the first third of Vol. I. This edition is very handsomely printed as well. Masi the printer boats on the title page that it is printed with types supplied by Fermin Didot the great Parisian printer. Each volume has a lithographed frontispiece portrait accomplished on the stone by F. Wagner. The portrait of Petrarch introduces Vol. I and the portrait of Laura Vol. II.
