Leaf 250 × 180 mm printed in gothic textura in two columns with rubricated chapter headings "Dat derde capittel" "Dat vierde capittel" "Dat vijfte capittel" and red paragraph marks. Large woodcut at head depicting the Annunciation: the Archangel Gabriel bearing the scroll "Ave gratia plena" before the Virgin Mary with the Holy Spirit descending in rays from a cloud the scene set within an architectural frame flanked by standing saints in niches. Contemporary hand-colouring in red blue green and yellow. Printed on laid paper with visible chain-lines. Some marginal wear staining to the top left hand side and small edge losses but the image and text complete and clear; colouring well preserved. A good honest example of a late-fifteenth-century Netherlandish devotional book illustration. The text is in Middle Dutch and corresponds to Luke 1-2 including the Annunciation and the narrative of Zacharias and Elizabeth from a vernacular Gospel edition intended for lay readership. The style of the woodcut and typography place it within an early Netherlandish incunable book most likely printed in the Northern Low Countries from a Delft or Haarlem press around c1490. . Good. An excellent copy of this very scarce early nineteenth century discussion of the cultivation of crops in rows. The anonymous author of this work identified as the author of a similar work titled 'Essay on Green Crops' explains that in this twenty-seven page study 'I am in no wise ambitious of being considered as a promulgator of a new system or as wishing to establish theories only in existing in my own brain'. He explains that the observations on crop planting provided here 'have originated in experience' either his own or that of neighbouring farmers.Published at a time of agricultural crisis during the first half of the nineteenth century in part due to the Enclosure Acts and the Corn Laws. Enclosure in rural Britain led to riots and much social unrest the author closes the work by asserting that 'the agricultural state of this country at the present crisis particularly requires the consideration of those who are interested in its prosperity'.With the stamp of the 'Rothamsted Experimental Station' to the front pastedown.A very scarce work. 19654843n.p. 1965 1965. A collection of twenty-four contact sheets each with five photographs showing women modelling the latest in lates and rubber. Each sheet measures 102x255mm and each photograph approximately 68x45mm. There are four models and they are shown in wide array of clothing from straightforward items such as mackintoshes through latex night-dresses to rubber stockings undies and the "ever-popular Maid's Costume". And not forgetting the very zeitgeisty Avenger jacket modelled by Miss Terree the leading Rubber Model of 1965. Some of the sheets are a little browned and the first one has a crease but otherwise the set which is fastened by a single pin in the top left corner is in very good condition. n.p. 1965 hardcover

Old folds paperclip stains in the margins the paper is well-thumbed with small tears and creases but is overall supple and very good. Complex literate and detailed sex story about a man who meets a beautiful foreign woman in a park in an American city and is brought back to a luxurious abode where to his surprise he is called upon to pleasure the woman's lovely friend repeatedly and in a variety of ways. He later wakes up in the park and thinks he has dreamed the encounter but discovers a gold watch has been left in his pocket as a gift. The following day the events are repeated but this time with his friend and the beautiful foreign woman joining in. Spoiler Alert!: when they are thrown over after the dalliance the men learn that the young woman was the princess of a European country soon to be a queen and that she was visiting America for a last fling in anticipation of her upcoming wedding to the crown prince of another nation and that her companion was a countess who traveled everywhere with her as a chaperone.<br /> <br /> Porn of this sort was made exponentially more common when American servicemen gained wide access to mimeograph machines during WWII but this is a typed manuscript and our best guess is that it predates the War. Little from the text indicates the possible age of the manuscript. An OCLC and broad internet search locates no copies although admittedly OCLC is an insufficient source for tracking this sort of material. Possibly unique. unknown

A good plus copy uncut in the publisher's original orange marbled boards with a printed paper spine label the spine worn and chipped with loss and hinges weak. Relatively scarce in the 21st century though an apparently popular work at the time which saw a second edition in the same year and a third edition in 1825. First edition of a scarce historical romance about Mary Queen of Scots published to coincide with the visit of George IV to Scotland in 1822 the first by a reigning monarch since that of Charles II in 1651.<br /> <br /> A work clearly brimming with Scottish nationalist sentiment the preface by the "authors" states the novel was "sketched some years ago" but was written "when a rumour arose that an unknown author of great power Sir Walter Scott in publishing The Abbott in 1820 was about to bring back to our ken the days and fortunes of Queen Mary."<br /> <br /> However disappointed that Scott only featured Mary while imprisoned rather than covering her reign this novel was published to show that a historical romance "could be used to serve the purposes of contemporary Scottish patriotism" offering "Mary as a sexily vulnerable icon around whom a brotherhood of modern national subjects are confidently expected to rally." Hand-colored woodcut illustrations throughout printed on one side only with the first and last leaves pasted to the boards as issued; a couple of minor splits at folds but sound. Original orange boards title label as above pasted to the upper board with a hand-colored woodcut of a girl in a red dress dangling the accordion ABC; some wear and edge-spotting. An anonymously-published issue of a charming and clearly popular toy-book; another issue with the same woodcuts though a different illustration on the title-label has the imprint of the Turner and Fisher firm with addresses in Philadelphia and New York. Each leaf has a large decorative initial and a word and illustration to represent the associated letter with overall a very American look with rich colors and unusually charming and primitive woodcuts of well-known animals and objects. Slight toning and rubbing to surfaces but mostly clean and bright. 2592</p><p><em>Two screen printed posters reproduced from 60s-style psychedelic hand lettering advertising art exhibit and cultural events programming as part of the Open Wide Religious Arts Festival "in the Kennebunks" i.e. in the area of Kennebunk Maine and/or its neighboring town Kennebunkport. Apparently associated with one or more churches or religious communities as several advertised events mention a chapel worship service or other religious themes and programming. The rest of the events cover a wide range of arts happenings from exhibits of painting sculpture photography and historical artifiacts to dance theater including a performance by Bread and Puppet and poetry readings including by activist-priest Daniel Berrigan. Possibly from 1967 or 1968 the two years we can find reference to the festival taking place. Beautiful anonymous vernacular examples of the meeting of groovy flower-power design and religious community à la Sister Corita Kent.</em></p>
1848334<p>n.p. 1848. About very good in contemporary half calf over brown marbled boards rubbing to edges and corners spine label missing from vol. I prior owner bookplates removed vol. I front hinge broken some pages reinforced others with cancels as apparently intended and with minor foxing to some pages as the leaves are in a variety of papers some more susceptible to foxing than others. An unpublished handwritten manuscript which appears to be a final draft of an ecclesiastical history of the English church and which clearly takes issue with many of the teachings of the contemporary Catholic church. Written throughout in a clear hand and with extensive footnote citations to writers such as Bede Gildas Columba and others.<br /><br />The work appears to be an abridged compilation of many works in a similar vein to F.G. Tomlin's History of England with a significant portion of early chapters borrowing heavily and verbatim from Tindal's translation of Rapin de Thoyras's History of England.<br /><br />A fascinating and unique work which was clearly a labor of love and displays the author's work process. The manuscript holds many more unknowns for a researcher to discover.<br /><br />Small 4to. 2 vols. 2 136pp.; 1 137-318pp. Written on rectos only but with notes and revisions on many versos and with many revisions tipped- or pasted-in.</p>
