Many empty pages left as "Memorandum" to be filled with notes. This now rare book is full of interesting recipes and tips. It features typical Brazilian dishes such as broinhas, Bahia patties or cheese tartlets as well as English or even French dishes. This valuable work transcribes sections of Cook's 'Professed Cookery' (3ed; 1760) which includes the author's 'Plan of House-Keeping'. The 'Plan' is presented as an autobiographical account of her life in service at Hexham and Morpeth, together with the life of her friend 'Abigail'. The work as a whole provides a well-nigh unique account of country life in the eighteenth century; this edition (the sole modern version) includes a lengthy introduction by Burnet.
