1854220832Kyushu Japan. Kaei 7 1854. Manuscript architectural plan 69.8 x 87cms in black ink red dots indicating pillar removal in very good condition. An original architectural plan for a substantial Japanese house which has undergone renovation. The building probably belongs to a person with official samurai status. The plan is dated Kaei 7 1854 and shows the layout of the main rooms entrance and gateway as well as interior features such as a water source drainage points and irori sunken hearths for charcoal fires. Red dots on the plan show the places where pillars have been replaced and the document bears the names both of the carpenter and of an official of the Kokubu District in southern Kyushu. . unknown

Softcover bound in yapp-edged black wraps titled in black and light green with gilt and green art deco decorations on the front cover and a gilt vignette of an iron fence on the rear cover. The edges of the covers are slightly creased and the top edge is faded. There is a short tear along the bottom edge of the rear joint extending into the spine. 96 pages with a title leaf and foreword with profuse full-page black & white illustrations of various styles of architectural iron fences & gates and installations making use of them. The last 2 pages includes a partial list of owners of Cincinnati Iron Fences. Very good. <p>The text also includes instructions for taking measurements as well as some information on dimensions and prices.<p>The illustrations include many photographs of homes and property enclosed by ironwork fences as well as commercial properties which sometimes make use of attractive fencing and at other times simple chain link fencing. One example depicts simple but attractive iron fencing used as bridge railing for Cincinnati's Mt. Auburn's Walker and Ringold Street Bridge.<p>RARE. Some form of customs or shipping label is mounted on the front wrap obliterating the cover illustration & part of the titling. 22 pages plus 72 pages of sepia-toned photographic illustrations. Despite the condition of the covers the binding is tight & the contents are very good. Good <p>First edition.<p>The book is a pictorial work on sanitoriums and health resorts in the Caucasus Mountain region. Kislovodsk is a spa city in the North Caucasus region between the Black and Caspian Seas. Pyatigorsk is a resort city with an important spa. It is the tourist center of the Caucasian Mineral Waters. Essentuki Yessentuki is a city at the base of the Caucasus Mountains. It has been recognized as one of he best health resorts for the treatment of the digestive organs. Zheleznovodsk is a town whose name translates as "Iron Water Place" as the mineral waters are believed to have a high iron content. First edition of this very scarce and well-illustrated work on the newly invented windows produced by AWCO in Houston TX which allowed for both upper and lower sections of double-hung window sashes to be pivoted in and cleaned. In the years before air conditioning became standard equipment for commercial buildings and residences the AWCO windows were installed in the Loew Theatre in Houston Memorial Hospital in Louisiana MO the La Salle Hotel in Beaumont TX and Doctors and Hospital Building in New York. Lewis 1889-1944 was an oil engineer for the Texas Oil Company who when frustrated with being unable to just open windows a crack in order to work in the Texas summer heat invented a double-hung window which could pivot open and contracted with the short-lived American Window Co. to produce the window commercially. Fifth edition of this surprisingly scarce Jazz Age brochure to southern California bungalow house plans. Wilson 1862-1953 called himself “The Bungalow Man†and published many different catalogues of bungalow designs from 1910 through the 1920s. He heavily marketed his “Wilson Bungalow†and was a significant architect in the development of the California bungalow through the influence of the Japanese aesthetic on the American Arts & Crafts Movement along with the development of the “dobe shacks†of early Californios into comfortable homelike bungalows. He also specifies in this catalogue that he would execute special plans for clients at $ 10.00 per home with a range of sizes. Of interest are the numerous illustrations of interiors Arts & Crafts inspired hardware doors and more included with the house plans. Contains 30 plates of drawings depicting designs and floor plans Plates 1 and 2 comprise the title page and frontispiece. Also includes biographical section on Thornton and a historical section on The Octagon which are bound together via string. Enclosing the plates is a green quarter cloth binding with a paper cover. The title is in the center of this front cover over a drawing of a door from the Octagon. Portfolio binding shows some signs of wear near edges and hinges with dampstain on the cover but no dampstain to plates. Some plates are lightly worn near edges and last page of historical sketch is nearly detached from its binding. No annotation or foxing in this copy. Plats are amazing and beautifully detailed. A wonderful collection and perfect gift for any New York architecture enthusiast. Due to the size and weight of this set an additional shipping charge will apply and will be requested after purchase. 1630100703<p>M. Greuter 1630. 1630. Very good. - An original copperplate engraving by Mattheus Greuter of the palace and gardens of Cardinal Montalto in Rome. The image a bird's eye view of Villa Montalto is engraved on 10-5/8 inch wide by 15-3/4 laid paper with a watermark depicting a circle and what appears to be an anchor. Titled along the top with a lengthy description over 3 lines engraved along the bottom and a few explanatory captions within the image. Folded vertically down the center with a small stain to the lower right margin four tiny holes at right 2 barely perceptible within the image. There is a tape stain along the top right edge of the verso. Very good.</p><p>Part of a collection of 8 engravings of Roman gardens and palaces engraved by Mattheus Greuter and Francesco Corduba which were first published by Greuter and his brother in law Gottfried van Schayck. The image depicts the lavish formal gardens with the main building at the centre and other buildings along the gate. The main gate is depicted at the upper right section.</p><p>Living in enforced isolation during the papacy of his political enemy Pope Gregory XIII Cardinal Montalto 1521-1590 resided at his estate the Villa Montalto overlooking the Baths of Diocletian.
