Rogers and Black per Colt & Robinson proprietors of the New York & Offing Electro-Magnetic Telegraph." Dedicated to Samuel F. B. Morse "inventor of the American Electro-Magnetic Telegraph." Rogers a trained engineer from New York City worked as Morse's assistant in constructing the first telegraph line from Washington to Baltimore. He was himself an inventor and pioneered the use of insulated cables for use underground and underwater. During the Civil War he helped develop the military telegraph system.
