Margaret Mitchell pictured in pamphlet director of the test kitchen at Wear-Ever Cooking Utensil Company worked to develop utensils suitable for the electric range. Homemakers were troubled by their electric bills after installing their new electric ranges - Mitchell studied the sizes shapes and capacities of the utensils being used in households and deduced from her investigation that utensils for electric ranges should have straight sides and perfectly flat bottoms. Colwin was a part-time resident of West Cornwall CT where she struck up a friendship with Barbara Farnsworth.
