The first responds to Mrs. Bunker's earlier letter congratulating her on her "brilliant son-in-law" hoping that Iran is not a powder keg and regretting that the Bunker's wouldn't be going to Europe for the summer. The second written while she is recovering from a leg injury "the cast is off and I'm left in bandages which replace it from toes to knee" and mentions a letter received "I went back to tears when I read the long and sorrowful letter sent me by Prince Ranier. The pain and anguish he feels is heartbreaking.I've alwas loved her but isn't it sad that I didn't know how much until she was gone After 30 years of close friendship sisterly this is a sad truth." And the last letter commences with business stating that she's fired her agent and was looking for another then describes how she snapped off four teeth biting on an English muffin and needed "pinning all together. 1 vols. 8vo and 4to. Fleur Cowles was the editor and publisher of the elaborate fashion magazine "Flair." Her husband Gardner Cowles was the editor of "Look." Isabel Leighton later Mrs. Arthur Hugh Bunker was a war correspondent playwright actress radio personality and author and very active with various social responsibilites. She was the author of "Where Away" and her short story "Fat Girl" was chosen for inclusion among the "100 Best Stories to Come of the War." Her theatrical successes include "Spring Again" and "Mercenary Mary" and as a war correspondent she covered both Asia and Europe with her articles appearing in most of the leading periodicals in the country. 24851Between 13 January 1972 and 13 January 1976. Each of the fourteen items on his letterhead 68 Bedford Court Mansions Bedford Avenue WC1. See his entry in the Oxford DNB. The recipient Philip Dosse was proprietor of Hansom Books publisher of a stable of seven arts magazines including Books and Bookmen and Plays and Players. See ‘Death of a Bookman’ by the novelist Sally Emerson editor of ‘Books and Bookmen’ at the time of Dosse’s suicide in Standpoint magazine October 2018. The present material is in good condition lightly aged. A total of 18pp 12mo nine pages apiece in autograph and typed. In the first letter 13 January 1972 typed he states that he would ‘love’ to review Richard Buckle’s book on Nijinsky for ‘Dance and Dancers’ but that he ‘dare not take on any further commitments’ as he is ‘already in arrear with literary work’ in addition to visiting his wife in a nursing home every day. On 28 August 1973 he agrees to review Kerensky’s ‘Pavlova’ noting that the review of the Buckle book is on his conscience. The correspondence continues with reference to reviews he has undertaken for Dosse payments and ill health. On 23 September 1975 typed he thanks Dosse ‘for asking Buckle to review my book for Books. & Bookmen while possibly Peter Williams may review the book for Dance. & Dancers.’ He also thanks him for the offer of a free advertisement in both magazines for his forthcoming memoir ‘Bookseller at the Ballet’. ‘This would be a great help. I should mention that I am publishing the book myself so I shall have to go cautiously in regard to taking paid space I have spent so much on the production of the book which should be ready during November.’ In a later letter he states that he is sending a copy of the book’s prospectus and on 6 November 1975 he sends copies of the book ‘for the favour of review’. In the final letter 13 January 1976 autograph he thanks him for the free advertisements while expressing worry that Dosse is ‘losing advertisement revenue’. He ends by stating that he has ‘not been too well lately but I am now getting back to normal’. Beaumont died four months later or 24 May 1976. Between 13 January 1972 and 13 January 1976. Janet Shikles contributed a weekly column often surrounding women’s labor history cultural heritage fashion notable women dignitaries and more. The Bangkok World Sunday Magazine was only published from 1957-1968 when it was merged with the Standard International to form Standard Bangkok Magazine and later renamed Impact in 1972.
