Bianca pagina 75 che secondo la didascalia dovrebbe ospitare la quarta fotografia di Alex Franchini Stappo “La grande porta†- questa è presente alla pagina numerata 73 al posto di “Case†che risulta quindi omessa in questo esemplare. I testi di presentazione dei fotografi ciascuno presente con un piccolo ritratto e 4 scatti furono composti d’intesa con Giuseppe Cavalli Lucera 1904 - Senigallia 1961 da Mario Finazzi Bergamo 1905-2002 cui si deve anche la cura grafica del volume. Raccolti attorno all’avvocato Vincenzo Cavalli vicino agli ambienti di Casorati Cagli e Donghi gli Otto propongono una fotografia raffinata e antiretorica un’estetica metafisica e distante tanto dagli stilemi della propaganda di regime quanto dal realismo di indagine sociale e dal pittorialismo romantico «per esprimere piuttosto un concetto di fotografia ""pura"" semplice nella forma sempre essenziale e rigorosa e dal tono ""alto"" lattiginoso fattori questi che attribuivano all'immagine un valore estetico estraneo al soggetto ma determinato piuttosto dal ""modo"" in cui questo era stato visualizzato fotograficamente.» Italo Zannier DBI sub Voce Cavalli Giuseppe. Da questa ricerca nascerà il Manifesto della Bussola pubblicato da Cavalli con Finazzi Leiss Vender e Luigi Veronesi nel maggio 1947 sulle pagine della rivista Ferrania: «Noi crediamo alla fotografia come arte … Chi dicesse che la fotografia artistica deve soltanto documentare i nostri tempi commetterebbe lo stesso sorprendente errore d'un critico d'arte o letterario che volesse imporre a pittori o poeti l'obbligo di trarre ispirazione da cose ed avvenimenti determinati e solo da quelli dimenticando con siffatta curiosa pretesa l'assioma fondamentale che in arte il soggetto non ha nessuna importanza».
