Ejemplar falto de dos hojas de preliminares. Encuadernación en pergamino, de la época, con pérdidas en el plano posterior. El autor real de este famoso canon métrico manierista fue el jesuíta abulense Diego Garcia de Rengifo (1553-1615) y su primera edición es de Salamanca, 1592. Todas las ediciones del Siglo XVII son muy raras, dado su éxito entre los innumerables aspirantes a poetas en el Siglo de Oro.

An excellent copy of the rare first edition of this important work on European politics written during the War of the Spanish Succession. Numerous references to America. Two folding genealogical tables. WorldCat cites two copies of the 1713 second edition, but no copies of this 1712 first edition. Sabin cites the greatly abridged 1713 English translation (21208) but not this original edition. 12mo. A PRISTINE COPY, in the publisher's marbled wraps. Near fine.

013778Julien Clément (1659-1728 ou 1729), chirurgien natif d'Arles, accoucheur à la cour de France, accoucheur de madame la Dauphine. Toutes les princesses du sang et les dames de cour ne voulaient que lui comme accoucheur, il fit aussi trois voyages en Espagne pour aider la reine d'Espagne à accoucher. Il fut anobli en 1711 P.S., 2 janvier 1703, 1p in-8 oblong. Sur parchemin. Quittance pré-imprimée pour le paiement d'une rente pour lui et ses enfants mineurs (et mentionnant sa défunte femme). Certains le disent membre de l'Académie royale de chirurgie, créée en 1731. Il était probablement plutôt membre de la Communauté des chirurgiens de Saint Côme et Saint Damien, une confrérie né au XIIIe siècle et qui sera dissoute à la création de l'Académie. Cette dernière a d'ailleurs pris possession de l'amphithéâtre d'anatomie qui avait été érigé pour la communauté. [280-2]

1821WRCAM51825Guatemala 1821. 18pp. Small folio. Stitched. Ink stains and dust soiling on final leaf verso. Light foxing and dampstaining. Very good. A Guatemalan imprint of several decrees passed by the Spanish legislative assembly the Còrtes in 1820. The assembly existed for three years from 1820 to 1822 during the so-called Trienio Liberal when a military coup forced Ferdinand VII to institute a more liberal form of government. He eventually defeated those forces with the aid of the French and re-established an absolute monarchy. The decrees included here order pensions to be granted to those families who suffered for their adherence to the Constitution first promulgated in 1812 and offers amnesty to all those who were forced to emigrate from Spain because of their political views among other actions. The longest decree addresses enrollments in the Spanish navy and the provision of men for Spanish warships. The final leaf bears the printed signature of Gavino GaÃÂnza who at this point was the head of the Spanish provincial and military government in Guatemala but who later in 1821 would sign the Act of Independence of Central America and declare the country's independence from Spain.
