Chas. G. Frankish moved to Ontario in 1885 after trading his 10-acre citrus ranch in nearby Riverside for 80 acres of undeveloped land on Euclid Avenue south of the Southern Pacific railroad tracks. He moved to Ontario because he firmly believed in what the Chaffey brothers were attempting to accomplish with their planned "Model Colony" and also because he foresaw Ontario's potential for growth and development. When he learned that the Chaffey brothers were planning to sell their interest in the model community he quickly joined with a small group of investors to organize the Ontario Land and Improvement Company. In February 1886 Frankish was named president and manager of the newly formed company. He took an active role in the promotion and sale of the company's land holdings. Under his management the company sold $1015000 of real estate during its first two years of existence.Frankish was actively involved in the planning and development of Ontario. He was responsible for the design of almost all of the city south of the Southern Pacific tracks and he established and ran Ontario's first ban the Ontario State Bank. We can find no history of his photographic pursuits. Chas. G. Frankish unknown

196943202Berkeley: Thomas Klaber 1969. Single tabloid issue. On newsprint 4pp. Horizontal folds as issued; mild toning to newsprint; Very Good. Inaugural issue of this highly ephemeral underground newspaper published by disaffected staffers of the Berkeley Barb. Only three issues were published all between June 1 - July 4 1969; each issue bore alternate titles on opposite sides of the paper - "Berkeley Peoples Paper" on one side "Berkeley Fascist" on the other - with satirical content all designed more or less to lampoon the culture around The Berkeley Barb at this time the Bay Area's indeed the country's largest-circulation underground paper arranged more or less to match. Articles are unattributed but the masthead of the July 4 1969 issue listed among the paper's staff Allan Coult and K<br/>aren Lance Klaber's future spouse and long-time publisher of the East Bay Monthly both of whom had direct ties to the Barb. The entire staff appears to have had a running grudge with the Barb's publisher Max Scherr a notoriously tight-fisted employer whose allegedly vast personal income is a subject of speculation in the first issue's lead editorial titled "Fascist Supremacy." This grudge would eventually culminate in the entire Barb staff walking out in protest founding their own underground paper The Berkeley Tribe which quickly challenged and eventually surpassed the Barb for the position of the Bay Area's leading underground. People's Paper thus comprises an important chapter in the momentous Barb / Tribe split but it is practically unknown with only four physical holdings noted in OCLC none of which appear to hold more than a single issue.
