XXXII 438; XVI 452 pp. ; 55 ll. Very rare account by Peter Simon Pallas 1741-1811 of his second expedition to Russia in 1793-1794. This time he studied the southern provinces of Russia especially the steppes near the Caspian Sea the northern Caucasus the Crimea and the Black Sea. Although Pallas published an extensive account in German of his second expedition in 1799-1801 it never gained as much attention as the first expedition to Russia and Siberia 1768-1774. The present work is the French translation of this German account. In this account of his travel to South Russia the Crimea and the Black Sea Pallas not only describes his route through the Russian Empire he also - as a geologist and naturalist - gives an excellent physical and topographical description of the landscape. He notes the differences in the landscapes he faces along his way not only differences in nature but also how these Crimean landscapes have historically changed over years. He describes their historical geological changes based on fossils and antiquities he finds. He also discusses the flora fauna and climatology of the area. Next to this he gives a more cultural and anthropological description of South Russia and the Crimea. He gives his own remarks on the Crimean peoples economy and trade. With a bookplate on the front paste-downs of all volumes. Annotation on second endpaper of the atlas volume some of the 55 plates with manuscript captions in French in ink. With a library stamp on the title-page of both text volumes and on the first plate of the atlas volume. Bindings of the two volumes very slightly worn corners of the atlas volume bumped. Some browning and foxing not affecting the text or images. She participated in the anti-colonial struggle in the second war of independence and despite the death of her son Abdón Calderón at a young age in battle maintained a strong bond with the independence struggle and frequently corresponded with Antonio José de Sucre and Simón Bolívar. In near fine condition. With a portrait of Bolivar. Venezuelan military and political leader Simón Bolívar also known as 'El Libertador' led what are currently the countries of Venezuela Bolivia Colombia Ecuador Peru and Panama to independence from the Spanish Empire in the campaign for the independence of New Granada which began in 1808 and was consolidated with the victory at the Battle of Boyacá on 7 August 1819. Despite a number of hindrances including the arrival of an unprecedentedly large Spanish expeditionary force the revolutionaries eventually prevailed culminating in the victory at the Battle of Carabobo in 1821 which effectively made Venezuela an independent country. Following this triumph over the Spanish monarchy Bolívar participated in the foundation of the first union of independent nations in Latin America Gran Colombia of which he was president from 1819 to 1830. Through further military campaigns he ousted Spanish rulers from Ecuador Peru and Bolivia the last of which was named after him. He was simultaneously president of Gran Colombia present-day Venezuela Colombia Panama and Ecuador Peru and Bolivia but soon after his second-in-command Antonio José de Sucre was appointed president of Bolivia. Bolívar aimed at a strong and united Spanish America able to cope not only with the threats emanating from Spain and the European Holy Alliance but also with the emerging power of the United States. At the peak of his power Bolívar ruled over a vast territory from the Argentine border to the Caribbean Sea. unknown

In his posthumously published autobiography "Last Words" Carlin said of the show "I had a great time. I never laughed so much so often so hard as I did with the cast members" but did not get along with co-creator Simon a view Simon attributed in an interview to the show's "cancellation affecting George's attitude towards the work in retrospect" and he considered the show "a very special period of my life."<br/><br/>The majority of scripts are housed in 27 generic black ring binders with one binder per episode each containing between three and nine scripts. H1057Wellington John Mackey 1908 Vol. II 1914 S. 33-35.
1789168579Paris: Maradan 1789-93. The celebrated French translation in the original boards First edition in French. First published in German this is the account of Pallas's expedition across the central Russian provinces from 1768 to 1774. He reported on the passage of Venus brought back numerous animal and plant specimens and made anthropological observations of local peoples. Simon Peter Pallas 1741-1811 was a German zoologist and botanist and a leading figure in the Russian scientific enlightenment. He was educated at Halle Göttingen and at Leiden where he submitted his doctorate in 1760. After a trip to England to study natural history and geology Pallas settled at The Hague where he published the acclaimed Elenchus zoophytorum and Miscellanea zoologica. He soon attracted the attention of Catherine the Great who invited him to St Petersburg where he became a professor of natural history at the Imperial Academy of Sciences. In 1768 at the specific request of the tsarina he was placed in charge of an expedition of five naturalists and seven astronomers into Russia and Siberia. Over the next six years the party traversed the empire from the plains of European Russia to the borders of Mongolia. "Pallas arrived back in St Petersburg in July 1774 with a vast amount of data and many fossil specimens but broken in health. His hair was whitened with fatigue and nearly all of his companions had died. His journals had been regularly despatched back to St Petersburg and were awaiting him on his arrival" Howgego. His chief geological contribution was the recognition of the temporal sequence of rocks from the centre to the flanks of a range. He also found a wide distribution of mammoth and rhinoceros fossils in the Siberian ice. This work was originally published in German in the period 1771-76. This French edition includes additional material covering the findings of the natural historians Samuel Gottlieb Gmelin Ivan Ivanovich Lepekhin and Johann Gottlieb Georgi. The present work deals with the medicinal properties of various substances and is considered one of Paulli's most important contributions to the field of medicine. In the preface to Flora Danica Simon Paulli writes that the plant descriptions are drawn from Dodoens but organized into four groups based on the flowering time. One might think that this was meant as a simple and understandable system for laypeople but the system was not specifically created for this work. In Flora Danica Paulli employed a classification that he had already developed and presented in the present work the same year he arrived in Copenhagen. Since Simon Paulli originally wrote Flora Danica in Latin and had it translated with the help of a Danish student it is reasonable to assume that he drew much of the material directly from this book. See Bjerke “De Lærdeste Lægers Urtegaardeâ€. Simon Paulli 1603–1680 was a Danish physician and naturalist and made significant contributions to the fields of medicine and botany during the 17th century. Paulli was born in Rostock Germany and later moved to Denmark. He served as a professor of medicine at the University of Copenhagen and became the personal physician to King Christian IV of Denmark. In the botanical realm Paulli is particularly known for his work "Flora Danica". Published in the mid-17th century "Flora Danica" was one of the earliest works of its kind and contributed to the scientific understanding of plant life in Denmark. Apart from his botanical contributions Simon Paulli made important strides in the field of medicine and he is recognized for his studies on human anatomy. Simon Paulli's impact on botany and medicine particularly in Scandinavia has left a lasting legacy in the history of science. </em> hardcover

It owes its origin to the suggestion of Staunford that it would be a good idea if lawyers would write treatises on the other titles of the abridgments similar to his study of the Title "Prerogative." Staunford illustrated his meaning by showing how the Title "Brief" might be treated. Theloall chose this title and wrote a treatise on it for his own use. The manuscript having been lent eventually found its way to a printer. "It deserved to be printed as it is the most orderly treatise on procedure founded on the Year Books that had yet appeared. Historically it comes between the older commentaries upon writs and the modern books on procedure" Holdsworth. A second edition was published in 1678.
