A Paris chez Allut 1820 8° Portrait Fontaine del 488; VIII 541 1; 514; 440 1 Bl.; X 397; 359; 357 1 Bl. 376 II 1 Bl.; 398 III; 388 III; 251 pp. 38 pp. Cat. gebunden in 11 marmorierten Halbledereinbänden der Zei Simon-André Tissot "sehr berühmter Arzt geb. 20.März 1728 in Grancy im Waatlande studirte in Genf und Montpellier von 1746 ab promovirte hier 1749 liess sich in Lausanne nieder und lenkte zunächst durch seine abweichende Behandlung der Pockenkranken mit abkühlenden und sedativen Mitteln statt der bisher üblichen Diaphoretica und Stimulantia die allgmeine Aufmerksamkeit auf sich welch noch gesteigert wurde durch seine Propaganda für die Impfung deren grossen Nutzen er in der Schrift: "L'inoculation justifiée diss. pratique et apologétique sur cette méthode avec un essai sur la mue de la voix" Lausanne 1754 betonte. Die 1758 veröffentlichte Arbeit "Diss. de febrius biliosis seu historia epidemiae Lausannensis anni 1775" Lausanne führte zu einer wissenschaftlichen Controverse mit De Haen. Besonders grosses Aufsehen erregte Tissot aber durch seine populär-med. Schriften unter denen die berühmteste die über Onanie ist. Sie führt den Titel: "L'onanisme ou dissert. physique sur les maladies produites par la masturbation" Löwen 1760; 1764 Paris 1769 und viele andere Auflagen. Tissot erlangte in Folge dessen eine ganz bedeutende Praxis und sein Ruf verbreitete sich so sehr dass ihm verschiedene glänzende Anerbietungen gemacht wurden. Doch lehnte er sie alle ab und verblieb an seinem bisherigen Wirkungskreise wo er die Professur am Coll. méd. erhielt. Erst 1780 gab er den lebhaften Bemühungen Kaiser's Joseph's II nach und folgte seinem Rufe als Professor der med. Klinik nach Pavia an Stelle von BORSIERI der nach Mailand gegangen war. In dieser neuen Stellung wirkte Tissot weniger segensreich als akad. Lehrer als vielmehr duch seine ausserordentlich glücklichen und glänzenden therapeutischen Erfolge die er bei einer gerade ausgebrochenen schweren Epidemie von Gallenfieber durch seine eigene abweichende Behandlungsmethode erzielte. Doch kehrte er nach 3jähr. Lehrtätigkeit wieder nach Lausanne zurück nachdem er inzwischen eine Reise durch Italien gemacht hatte wo ihm obwohl er Protestant war die Ehre einer längeren und besonders freundlichen Audienz beim Papst in Rom zu Theil wurde. Von seinen Landsleuten wurde seine Rückkehr als ein freudiges Ereignis gefeiert. Tissot starb am 15. Juni 1797. Er war einer der berühmtesten Praktiker seiner Zeit auch ein vertrauter Freund von Haller und Zimmermann. Ausser dessen citirten Schriften sind noch folgende erwähneswert: "Avis au peuple sur la santé" Lausanne 1761 eine Schrift die in weniger als 6 Jahren 10 Auflagen erlebte später in vielen weiteren Auflagen erschienen und in fast alle europäischen Sprachen übersetzt ist - "De valetudine litteratorum" Ib.1776 - "Traité de l'épilepsie" Paris 1770 - "Traité des nerfs et de leurs maladies" Ib. 1782 4 voll.; deutsch Wintherthur 1781-82 4 bde.; ital. Venedig 1781 2 voll.; Neapel 1782 5 voll. sehr bedeutendes leider unvollendet gebliebenes Werk - "Essai sur les maladies des gens du monde" Laus. 1770. Dazu kommen Uebersetzungen von einigen Dissertationen Haller's Bilguer's und Andren aus dem Lateinischen in's Französische sowie kleinere polemische Schriften etc. Eine Gesammtausgabe seiner Schriften erschien Paris 1820 in 11 Bdn. -cf. Erste deutsche Ausgabe der frühesten ganz der Neuropsychiatrie gewidmeten Abhandlung. Samuel Auguste André David Tissot 1728-1797 der berühmte Lausanner Arzt und führende Praktiker Europas hatte das Manuskript zu diesem Handbuch bereits 1768 zusammengestellt. Aber erst 1778 bis 1783 wurde es in französischer Sprache veröffentlicht. In einer klaren Sprache die das Werk noch heute lesenswert macht unterscheidet Tissot entschieden zwischen den eigentlichen Nervenkrankheiten und anderen Erkrankungen. Ausführliche Literaturhinweise auch zu heute meist vergessenen Autoren bereichern das Werk. Seine berühmte Monographie über die "fallende Sucht" eine der profundesten frühen Abhandlungen über die Epilepsie ist im Band 4 unserer Reihe abgedruckt. Tissot behandelt auch in großer Breite die Beziehungen zwischen vollständiger sexueller Enthaltsamkeit und psychopatholog. Zuständen. Er berührt dabei auch Probleme des Unbewussten und der Unterdrückung. Mit Recht kann man daher Tissot als "Freudian before Freud" Harms bezeichnen. Tissot one of the most celebrated physicians of his time was the eighteenth-century advocate of the importance of temperament in mental disease. He wrote probably one of the first monographs devoted exclusively to the nervous system. Tissot discussed in great detail the problem of the relationship between complete sexual continence and psychopathology. Here he also presented a rudimentary concept of the unconscious or subconscious and he touches an area that brings to mind Freud's theory of suppression. British wine expert Hugh Johnson described French-born wine merchant Andre Simon as "the charismatic leader of the English wine trade for almost all of the first half of the 20th century and the grand old man of literate connoisseurship for a further 20 years".
