First edition of uncommon pictorial map route guide for the Santa Fe and Disneyland Railroad which opened July 15 1955 featuring two narrow gauge scale steam locomotives constructed by Roger Broggie of the Walt Disney Studios machine shop based on the narrow-gauge Oahu Railway & Land Co. passenger cars at the Travel Town Museum in Los Angeles. Locomotive No. 1 was based on his own scale 1:8-scale miniature Lilly Belle and the other No. 2 was a later ca. 1900 steam locomotive with straight smokestack as indicated for coal-burning locomotives circular headlamp and a small cowcatcher. The railroad featuring 5/8 scale of early Santa Fe RR trains visited in a loop around the park Main Street Adventureland Frontier Land Fantasy Land and Tomorrow Land. The pictorial map features a simplified route map with Native-American pictographs reminiscent of Holling C. Stitching visible in inside margins however binding very sturdy.<br /> <br /> Ex-libris James Cowan Smith with his bookplate depicting his beloved dog Callum on the front pastedown. James Cowan Smith 1843-1919 was a British civil engineer director of a railway company British Wagon and philanthropist. In his will he bequeathed what would now amount to roughly $4284000 to the National Gallery of Scotland to be used to expand its collection. The one stipulation was that the portrait of his dog Callum by John Emms was to be on permanent display in the museum. Last page advertisements extremely fine copy of one of those rare promotional booklets issued by the various railroads in the early days. Ownership signature of Dorothy and Clint Josey. A very well-assembled promotional extolling the merits of the region for cattle-raising outlining the improvements the railroad was undertaking a water works and promising more a line from Forest City to Deadwood in the Black Hills. The plates show such things as "branding scene on Timm's Ranch Potter County South Dakota." One plate however seems a trifle out of place in such a work: "A number of Indians in a Council of War after the shooting of one of their number by a white man.near Forest City." Rare.
