Gli eventi che negli ultimi quarant'anni hanno ininterrottamente accompagnato la vita delle popolazioni dell'Afghanistan, hanno determinato un'evoluzione della rappresentazione bellica nei tappeti, ma anche involuzioni stilistiche legate alle contingenze che si susseguivano. Questo libro se da un lato intende delineare una storia esaustiva dei war rugs afghani, ancora oggi connotata da aspetti misteriosi e irrisolti, al tempo stesso fa in modo che il lettore possa, partendo da una sintesi storica dell'Afghanistan, "percorrere" la nascita, crescita e sviluppo di questi meravigliosi tappeti. Una storia fatta per immagini e per informazioni essenziali a comprenderne l'evoluzione, presentando un fatto artistico quasi unico al mondo: l'utilizzo di antichissime tecniche di realizzazione dei tappeti applicate alla "realtà", al quotidiano, nato e concluso in un arco di tempo storicamente brevissimo, tale da determinare per i posteri la possibilità di studiare una fase "completa" dell'arte millenaria dei fabbricanti di tappeti.
