First edition of the first German monograph on gas lighting; preceded only by Lampadius's translation of Accum's "Practical Treatise on Gaslight". J. J. Prechtl (1778-1854) initiated the foundation of the Vienna Polytechnical Institute in 1815, the first educational institute of its kind in the German-speaking countries, and served as its first director. The institute became a decisive force in the industrialization of Austria. In the autumn of 1815, Prechtl and the engineering professor Johann Arzberger developed a lighting apparatus based on coal gas, thus becoming a pioneer of continental gas lighting. He introduced the system at his Polytechnical Institute in 1817. - The plates are lithographed by the trained engraver Ignaz Kühn, later to become director of the Vienna Lithographic Institute (cf. Schwarz, 43); in 1817, when Senefelder left Vienna, he became Friedrich Kunike's principal assistant (cf. Thieme/B. XXII, 58). Il Rouhault era stato nominato dal sovrano sabaudo quale soprintendente del servizio sanitario d'armata dal 1740, professore del nuovo collegio di Chirurgia dell'Università di Torino (che nel frattempo era stato separato, a sequito dell'entrata in vigore delle Costituzioni del 1729, dal collegio di Medicina). L'edizione italiana del trattato ( a differenza dell'originale, che ne è privo) contiene tre tavv. f.t. in rame (di cui solo la prima firmata Gizzardi) riproducenti strumentidi chirurgia (perforatore, raschiatoio, coltello lenticulare, trapani, seghe, tenaglietta, etc.) a grandezza naturale e l'iconologica sposizione del buzani, qui aggiunta, illustrativa dei rimedi ai colpi procuranti fratture al capo o semplici escoriazioni. Una tav. incisa su rame ripiegata tra le pp. 350-351. Pregevole edizione remondiniana (nonché prima edizione in-folio), benché tarda, delle opere del Sydenham (Windford-Eagle, 1624-Londra, 1689), uno dei più celebri medici inglesi del XVII secolo. Le opere qui accolte concernono le febbri e l'epidemiologia (in relazione ad epidemie, principalmente di peste), la podagra, i calcoli. Le opere del Sydenham terminano alla p. 195 e sono seguite da un indice alle pp. 196-222. Seguono scritti di altri insigni medici quali William Musgrave, Giovan Battista Mazino, Antonio Cocchi, Bartolomeo Boschetti, Carlo Ricca su diverse materie mediche: l'artrite sintomatica e anomala, la salivazione mercuriale, il morbo petecchiale in Ungheria, le febbri catarrali, l'epidemia di Torino del 1720. Su quest'ultima nella ''Biografia medica piemontese'' (II, p.73) si legge: ''...eleganza e chiarezza nel descrivere, erudizione ed ordine nel maneggiare le cose trattate, ecco le doti singolari ... che meritarono all'autore suo (Ricca)... di essere paragonato sotto questo riguardo all'immortal Sidenham, con le opere del quale quelle del nostro professore furono ristampate nella magnifica edizione di Venezia del 1782''. Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Original autograph letter signed as 'Lütfullah' sent to Vasfi Riza Zobu. 1 p. In Ottoman script. No letterhead. It starts as 'Aziz agabeyimiz Vasfi bey' [= Our beloved brother]. Dated February 17, 1946. Lütfullah Sururi, one of the first artists who contributed to the current level in the coming opera in Turkey. He is one of the first operetta tenors after Cemal Sahir. They performed many times together with his wife Suzan Lütfullah (the first Turkish and Muslim primadonna). He is one of the founders of the Public Operetta and Süreyya Opera House. He was the director of Istanbul Theaters until his death after his wife's death. He joined the Muhlis's Operette Ensemble (Muhlis Sabahattin Operetta Community) and took on the 'Jeune' roles, he sang tenor songs on the stage for many years. Vasfi Riza Zobu, (1902-1992), was born on December 5, 1902, in Constantinople, Ottoman Empire. He was an actor, known for Tosun Pasha (1939), Karim Beni Aldatirsa (1933) and Milyon Avcilari (1934). He died on November 23, 1992, in Istanbul, Turkey. Extremely rare.

Médecin ophtalmologiste, Camuset (1840-1885) publia pour la première fois ses poèmes en 1884 de manière anonyme. Son ouvrage devint immédiatement un classique de la littérature médicale. Il édita deux ouvrages de médecine en 1877 et composa une chanson destiné " à son ami Lamarche" qui fut jouée sur une musique de Charles Gounod. Le livre contient une reproduction d'une lettre de Charles Monselet, adressée à l'auteur. Les illustrations ont été réalisées par l'aquafortiste, dessinateur et graveur belge Félicien Rops (1833-1898). Malgré quelques rousseurs sur les premières pages, bel exemplaire
