Original brown quarter leather binding; marbled paper over boards with leather corners. Spine decorated with five slightly raised bands separating four gilt tooled compartments and two compartments with gilt stamped lettering. Edges and all endpapers are also marbled. Some damage to the spines of volumes 2 and 3. Tight bindings save volume 2 which is broken. Some wear to the boards. Volume 2's front endpapers are mostly detached. Pages are clean mostly unstained and unmarked save a small pencil mark on the front endpapers of each volume. Really beautifully bound volumes of Carlyle’s writings.
