1900001992Germany: Muco 1900. Softcover. First edition; 8 x 2 1/4 extended; thick beige card-stock case illustrated in back and green; chromolitographed card tucked in; metal clasp attached to card verso; light age-toning to card stock; clasp a bit rusted and not very tight; very good or better condition. A risque novelty item it proudly proclaimed: "To be kept secret! For gentlemen only." As the card was initially pulled down Miss Fatima's bare legs were slowly revealed and by the time it was fully extended a silly clown-face underwear showed and your fingers got snapped by the clasp. Although the clasp has lost its "snap" the card has remained an interesting and unusual artifact of early-20th-century male entertainment. Germany: Muco paperback books
1877001361N/A 1877. Softcover. Program single sheet printed recto and verso; 5 x 8; mint-green paper printed in various elaborate fonts; small nick to top edge; a few faint crease lines; minor age-toning; very good. The program commemorated a benefit concert for the Oakland Light Cavalry Company - a volunteer organization of initially 101 men which was established earlier that same year in 1877. In the years between 1867 and 1877 Oakland had been steadily growing - boasting new residences sewage system and improvements to the harbor. On the other hand the progress had merchants and citizens worried about overpopulation waterfront problems and civil unrest. It did not help the matter that groups of hoodlums from Oakland and San Francisco would roam around and look for any chance to "help" start riots and disobedience. To keep the agitators at bay was the reason the Cavalry Company was formed. The men furnished their own horses carried themselves as soldiers and saved the county thousands of dollars in salaries to the active duty men employed to deal with the unrest. The Dietz Opera House c. 1874â1911 was Oakland's very first theatre located on the northeast corner of Webster Street and 12th Street. The opera house was on the second floor while the first floor housed a saloon. It is known that at some point of the theater's history Jack London delivered a lecture on Socialism there and around 1911 the Socialist Party had its headquarters in the building around 1911 Alfred Dietz had sold the theater in 1903. On May 1 1911 the Dietz Opera House burned to the ground amidst speculations that the fire was deliberately set to "dislodge" the Socialists. N/A paperback books

19562330Place of Publication Not Identified: Publisher Not Identified 1956. Octavo 8 5/8 x 4 7/8 inches; 213 x 97 mm 14 pages in stapled wrappers.

Lurid antisemitic pamphlet that begins "Are the Methodists teaching Judaism instead of Christianity" The pamphlet goes on to give excerpts from Jewish and Methodist publications in an attempt to show the Methodists are teaching from the Talmud which supposedly promotes communism. These excerpts are interspersed with sarcastic commentary such as referring to the Anti-Defamation League as the "secret police" of the American Jewish Committee.

The author also attacks the NAACP saying it's not led by a "Negro" but by "a revolutionary New York Jew." Moreover we're told that "documented information" links Zionism with "the World Communist conspiracy." The author also has a thing against universal brotherhood: "The creed of those who sponsor this program is to eliminate all personal freedom and the sovereignty of nations including America in favor of a Jewish world social order."

We estimate the publication date of the pamphlet to be 1956 or thereabouts since that's the latest year shown in the various excerpts published here. We have not been able to identify an author or group issuing this pamphlet. Perhaps an interesting research project for scholars of antisemitism or anticommunism.

OCLC shows only five institutional holdings of this pamphlet: Michigan State Samford New York Public Library Abilene Christian and the Wisconsin Historical Society. None in commerce March 2021. RARE.

CONDITION: Slight edge wear and toning some rusting to staples. About Near Fine.

[Publisher Not Identified] books
