Donnelley left the Republican Party after having served for three terms as Minnesota's Representative in Washington because he saw that the Republicans were "eternally wedded to the interests of the few." In turn he became a Liberal Republican Granger and finally a Greenback-Democrat. As a leader of the Farmers' Alliance in the state legislature he led it "almost to a man" into the Populist party "in the formation of which he had an active part." The Pine Land Investigating Committee was empowered by the state legislature in 1893 to investigate the thievery of timber "stumpage" from timberland in Minnesota. Donnelley was the chairman of the seven-man committee and the report which blew the whistle on the stumpage thieves was written almost entirely by him.

Pioneer Press Co unknown books

200360629Grand Junction Colorado: Rolling Tomes Inc 2003. 30 issues in all includes On the Tracks nos. 1-24 complete but without the final issue of March 2003; plus 7 annual "Collector's Issues" but without the final undated Collector's Issue - see below; 4to approx. 11" x 8½" each issue of On the Tracks generally about 60 pages Collector's Issues generally about 24 pages; the former illustrated throughout with much in color; the latter mostly unillustrated with text in quadruple column; original printed wrappers; generally fine throughout. "At first there were 3 issues a year of On the Tracks that were sent in February June and September; then a 4th issue was sent in November called 'Collector's Issue': it was actually just a catalogue of what was available for sale through Rolling Tomes . Though there is a gap in the numeration between Vol 10 #2 and Vol 11 #3 this is a complete set and the 'missing issues' do not seem to exist . This fanzine looked more like a music magazine. Illustrated by never-before published photographs it was professionally produced by Mick and Laurie McCuiston from their home in Grand Junction Colorado. Their address was well known by Dylan collectors in the 90's as they also ran Rolling Tomes the goldmine where you could easily order any official Dylan stuff: magazines dylanzines books -out of print and new- sheet music songbooks tour programmes posters but also T-shirts buttons cassettes records and videos . Long time before Amazon and selling Dylan stuff was a then a full time job for Mick and Laurie . Due to Mick's severe health problems they had to stop the publication see comewritersandcriticsdotcom. Foxing throughout.

It predominantly features a thorough room-by-room walkthrough of the galleries complete with comprehensive descriptions of each painting. The catalog opens with a concise historical overview and includes an index emphasizing its academic rigor. Noteworthy is a large folding map and a chart on the final pages that presents a breakdown of the number of artists and paintings sorted by their national school and detailing the acquisitions made by each of the four monarchs Catherine the Great Paul I Alexander I and Nicholas I who augmented the collection. This chart reveals that out of the 1692 paintings in the Hermitage as of 1838 a significant portion 1385 was acquired by Catherine the Great. The entries throughout the catalog are densely packed with information yet written in a straightforward unadorned style. De L'Imprimerie D'Édouard Pratz & Cie unknown

19245Undated and uncredited albumen photograph image size 4.75" x 7.75" identified in a handwritten caption on the mount as Forest City a town in Sierra County California where gold was discovered in 1852. Slight fading and spotting crack in the glass negative appearing in lower left but still a clear image of the town; very good overall. By 1854 the town boasted a population of about 1000 and was home to five hotels a school a restaurant two stables two meat markets six carpentry shops four blacksmiths four clothing stores several general stores and of course many saloons. A telegraph line reached the town in 1855. Forest City suffered several devastating fires over the years with the worst one occurring in 1883. Although efforts were made to rebuild most of the mines had dried up and the town's population began a steady decline. Today it is a ghost town. Early images showing the still-prospering town are quite scarce. unknown books
