Paper uniformly browned a few small tears to page edges fine otherwise. A 1902 manuscript translation of books 22-24 of Morin's 1661 Astrologia Gallica into French. 315 leaves written on one side with a detailed table of contents. 12 315pp. Signed Etienne Dercaisay and dated May 22 1902 on the final page. An opponent of Gallileo and Descartes among others Morin wrote the 26 books of the Astrologia Gallica but did not live to see them published he died in 1659 and they were published in 1661. The early books provide the theoretical basis in theology for his work while the later books discuss natal judicial mundane electional and meteorological astrology. Pieces were translated into Spanish in the 19th century and French and German in the early 20th including book 21 into French in 1902 a French translation of book 25 was done in the 1940s and other books appeared in English beginning in 1974 including book 21 published by NY City bookseller and astrologer Zoltan Mason - this book though unmarked is from his collection and then a series of translations into English starting with book 22 in 1994. Edition originale, un des 126 exemplaires sur japon, celui-ci un des 100 après l'exemplaire contenant les originaux et les 25 exemplaires aquarellés. Exemplaire justifié et signé par Louis Morin. Exemplaire complet des deux couvertures, non coupées, reliées en tête de l'ouvrage, l'une des deux étant la couverture refusée. L'ouvrage contient un très grand nombre d'illustrations, certaines en couleurs. L'affiche en annonce 170. L'ouvrage, dont le but était de lutter contre l'ennui, fait l'apologie des fêtes parisiennes et montmartroises. Il est divisé en huit parties : Bals d'artistes - Les peintres de la Butte - Bals publics. L'Opéra - Le Moulin Rouge - Les étudiants - La rue - Le Bouf gras - Les lavoirs et la réclame. L'auteur dit d'ailleurs : « Cet ennui qui nous prend, à cause de la tristesse, de la laideur et de l'hypocrisie qui nous environnent, doit être partagé par bien des gens : qu'ils réclament avec nous un peu de couleur et un peu de fantaisie » (p.181). Exemplaire enrichi de la rare affiche de librairie, tirée aussi sur papier japon, annonçant la publication de l'ouvrage. Elle mesure 36.5*46cm, annonce le prix de 3 francs 5 et mentionne : « affiche pour l'intérieur ». Elle est imprimée par Crété à Corbeil, comme l'ouvrage. Le numéro d'impression, « 454-98 » nous confirme d'ailleurs l'année d'édition, absente du volume. Reliure signée Carayon, bradel demi-maroquin rouge à coins, dos à nerfs orné de fers spéciaux, filets dorées en bordure. Petit accroc maquillé dans l'avant-dernier caisson du bas, petites usures aux coins. Cette reliure a été réalisée à plusieurs exemplaires pour cet ouvrage. On trouve par exemple un autre exemplaire parmi les 100 japon ou deux des 25 japon aquarellés . Ces trois exemplaires possédaient bien l'affichette à la fin du volume. On trouve la trace d'autres volumes avec une reliure similaire sans qu'il ne soit fait mention de l'affichette. Très bel exemplaire.
