A near fine copy the binding square and firm the extremities very lightly rubbed the contents with some light spotting and toning at the closed text block edge are otherwise clean throughout and without previous owner's inscriptions or stamps. Inscribed by E. J. Gold in blue ink on the limitation page "To Donald / We must begin to / act not always knowing / quite how to begin - / E. J. Gold / 10 Aug '86". Issued in a limited edition of only 150 copies this example is numbered 55. Gold writes and teaches on various forms of esoteric spirituality including transformational psychology and the human potential movement. The Biltmore Hotel was listed in a couple 1960s editions of "The Green Book but seems likely to have been welcoming to African Americans as well as non-heterosexuals before that date but don't know if thas true before 1949. We also do not know when or whether Brown was in Los Angeles when she inscribed this and don't know whether she was staying or able to stay in that hotel at that time. Baron Long identified as President on the stationery acquired the hotel in 1933 which was almost a decade after Brown had ended her four year term as President of the National Association of Colored Women 1920-1924. We also don't know anything about the inscribee. paperback

Nicolas de Fer was a prolific cartographer who produced atlases and hundreds of single maps. He eventually became the official geographer to King Louis XIV of France and King Philip V of Spain.One of de Fer’s major works is an atlas titled L’atlas curieux The curious atlas. An impressive looking tome 80 1495 137 pp. This is the author's principal work published first in 1623 and considered a turning point in Biblical studies and criticism moving the entire field in the direction of Lutheran theologian Phillip Spener the Father of Pietism the principal arguments of which is to place individual faith and piety as central to Christian theology and pedagogy.
