Mr. Von Nieda was the sole owner and operator of the Mountain Springs Hotel during its mid and late 19th century heyday. What remains of the hotel is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Located in Ephrata, Pennsylvania, at the corner of East Main Street and Spring Garden Street. It was originally built in 1848 as a summer resort, capitalizing on its natural spring water, and hosted a variety of high-profile guests including several Presidents. Edward Stillingfleet (1635-1699) was a British theologian and scholar. Considered an outstanding preacher as well as a strong polemical writer defending Anglicanism, Stillingfleet was known as "the beauty of holiness" for his good looks in the pulpit, and was called by John Hough "the ablest man of his time".
