Chansons satiriques. 1re série a musical score for voice and piano subtitled "Douze lithographies de Willette" was published in Paris in 1895 with music by Paul Hucks and lyrics apparently by A. Sémiane. With only 8 or possibly 10 lithographs this copy would seem to be incomplete apart from the music and lyrics which may or may not have been included. A later edition of the score or possibly a later série of it from the same publisher appeared in 1910. [Paris (G. Ondet), 1895?]. hardcover
5447France: S.P. S.D. Reprint. A limited edition 26/250 His 1 May 1915 illustration in Fantasio depicts a poignant wartime theme: "Living beautiful and dying by releasing a beautiful soul" featuring motifs of war casualties from the 1914-1918 conflict. This is not a page from the magazine it was printed as a poster and is printed later and numbered in pencil - but with no printer or publisher details. Fantasio was a First World War satirical magazine launched in August 1906 by Félix Juven. The only record of this print we can find is for the auction record of this copy. There is a little edgewear to the extensive margin but this could be easily hidden in framing. A lovely piece. Image area is 26.5cm x 41.5cm. The sheet is 41.5cm x 59cm. Blank to verso. Adolphe Willette 1857-1926 stands as a prominent figure among the bohemian artists of fin-de-siècle Montmartre renowned for his contributions as painter illustrator caricaturist and lithographer. He is today particularly remembered for his caricatures from the first world war. . 1921665761921. Fine. 1921 25 x 32.30 cm une feuille Extremely rare and humoristic menu pamphlet from the souper démocratique democratic supper organised by the République de Montmartre newly founded in 1921. The date shown is a parody of the republican calendar: ""17 Neigeôse An I"". A magnificent original wood engraving representing the Communards on the Montmartre hill and bearing the monogram Armand adorns the first board. In the spirit of the Paris Commune the République de Montmartre was created in the early 1920s by the Parisian artists Joé Bridge Adolphe Willette Jean-Louis Forain Francisque Poulbot Maurice Neumont Louis Morin Maurice Millière Raoul Guérin and Jules Depaquit. Their parties and banquets often organised in Montmartre's legendary venues Moulin de la Galette cirque Médrano Moulin Rouge were intended to unite the Montmartre community by mutual aid and sociability. This menu is a rare testimony of the beginnings of this joyful and festive organisation which is delivering here a very comical banquet where one serves Fois d'aristocrates truffés de chez Julien Julian's truffled aristocrat livers Salade d'Emigrés Salad of Expatriates and Fruits de la Révolution Fruits of the Revolution. It ends with the motto SALUT FRATERNITE et BON APPETIT ! CHEERS FRATERNITY and BON APPETIT! unknown

189974842Paris: Imprimerie Champenoispour CH. MassonH. Piazza 1899. Fine. Imprimerie Champenois pour CH. Masson H. Piazza Paris Avril 1899 23.50 x 30 cm une feuille et une serpente Rare original lithograph executed by Adolphe Willette for L'Estampe Moderne after the drawing exhibited at the Luxembourg Museum series number 24 published in April 1899. One of 50 deluxe proofs printed on Japan paper with wide margins laid paper mounted on Japan paper artist's signature in the plate publisher's dry stamp representing a child's profile in the lower margin numbered stamp of the deluxe printing on verso; engraving preceded by a tissue guard captioned with the artist's name title and text. Lithograph inspired by a poem extracted from the collection Chatîments by Victor Hugo reproduced on the print's tissue guard. Magnificent French monthly publication edited between May 1897 and April 1899 L'Estampe moderne consists of original chromolithographs which unlike other magazines such as Les Maîtres de l'Affiche and as stipulated on the tissue guards were created specially by each artist for the magazine. A total of 100 prints were thus published covering the major artistic movements of the late 19th century: Symbolism Art Nouveau Pre-Raphaelites Orientalists and Belle Époque. Each issue of four prints was printed in 2000 copies sold for 3.50F and 100 on Japan paper offered at 10F. Henri Piazza also planned a confidential deluxe printing: 50 copies on Japan paper with wide margins and 50 in black on China paper at the considerable price of 30F. This beautifully formatted print is superbly printed on the most prestigious of papers: Japan paper. Thick silky satiny and pearlescent it contributes to making each page a work in its own right. Its ink absorption quality and its affinity with colours also make it the ideal support for these very beautiful lithographs. French collectors' interest in artistic posters intensified in the early 1890s. Octave Uzanne to describe this fever invented the term ""affichomanie"". The poster originally popular and pasted on the streets of the capital then became an art object and its ephemeral medium became precious and destined for preservation. Piazza decided to remove the poster from its advertising purpose and elevate it to the rank of a work of art in its own right on the same level as the illustrated luxury book. He thus composed a prestigious collection of entirely original works by the most prominent European artists of the moment: Georges de Feure Eugène Grasset Henri Detouche Emile Berchmans Louis Rhead Gaston de Latenay Lucien Lévy-Dhurmer Gustave-Max Stevens Charles Doudelet Hans Christiansen Henri Fantin-Latour Steinlen Ibels Engels Willette Henri Meunier Evenepoël Bellery-Desfontaines Charles Léandre etc. Handsome copy.
