This psalm is a cornerstone in Christian theology as it is cited as proof of the plurality of the Godhead and Jesus' supremacy as king priest and Messiah. For this reason Psalm 110 is "the most frequently quoted or referenced psalm in the New Testament".3 Classical Jewish sources in contrast state that the subject of the psalm is either Abraham David or the Jewish Messiah. The printer Schirlentz had previously had printers license revoked because he had published the epigrams of Lemnius. Luther wanted to help Schirlentz and asked the elector personally for permission to print his psalm. Benzing 3322 unknown

It quickly became a place of workship but was on private hand up until 1689. By the end of the 17th century the house fell into disrepair and a tavern was opened. The Eisleben magistrate disliked the appearance of the house and decided to have a wooden plaque depicting Luther taken down. Shortly after the building burned down and after a large city fire in 1689 the magistrate forced the owner Marie Friedrich to sell the house to the city by denying her the usual reconstruction loans. Luther was born in this house in 1483 and gave his last sermon and died here in 1546. hardcover

19118839East Aurora NY: The Roycrofters 1911. Near Fine. Folio. 42 consecutive issues bound in 7 volumes with ads and many additions. 1/2 suede over laid-paper covered boards printed in black and red. Untrimmed and often unopened. Starting with Vol.1 April 1908 No.1 and ending with Vol 7 September 1911 No.6. Each bound volume has 6 issues. Each issue has 16-32pp. of text and 20-32pp of ads. Text is printed in two colors usually black and pink on very nice paper with adds appearing on smooth tan or white paper. Text is numbered consecutively. The cover of these large attractive magazines was designed by Dard Hunter and Hubbard himself wrote most of the ads. Alice Hubbard wrote much of the magazine but there were many contributors. Some illustrations by Denslow. These bound volumes have what appears to be additional sheets usually caricatures or jokes as transitions from one issue to another. All covers are present. There is an occasional small edge tear or crease but for the most part it appears that the volumes were made up of new unread issues of the magazine with the exception of Volume 5 where the magazines appear lightly used and have some small tears and creases to some of the covers and pages. Two issues April and May of 1911 have a different style cover pictorial in blue. The bindings are all in very nice condition; the rear endpaper of Volume 5 has a slight rippling but no evidence of moisture. There are pencil marks that appear to be editorial throughout the text sections of all volumes; they are not particuarly distracting. The Roycrofters unknown

16366Martin Luther King Jr. Speeches by The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. About the War in Vietnam. New York: Clergy and Laymen Concerned About Vietnam 1968. A collection of three speeches from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered from April 1967 to February 1968 regarding America's role in the Vietnam War: "Vietnam and the Struggle for Human Rights" April 1967 "The Domestic Impact of the War in Vietnam" November 11 1967 and "Vietnam Is Upon Us" February 6 1968. He wrote "my conscience leaves me no other choice."

Printed in April 1968 these speeches were published as part of the Committee for Clergy and Laymen Concerned about Vietnam CALCAV an organization of over 30 multi-faith leaders which Dr. King helped organize in 1965. King outlined moral and religious reasons to oppose the war that he described as a "nightmarish conflict." His later speeches focus more specifically on how the war is hurting families in the US. To King however the Vietnam War was only the most pressing symptom of American colonialism worldwide. Also included is a folded letter from the CALCAV dated October 1968 introducing the collection and listing all members. A near fine example with minimal tanning to extremities. unknown books
16367Martin Luther King Jr. Collection of documents commemorating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. including the program for his funeral services on April 9 1968 and more general material for all who mourned the civil rights leader's tragic death. The official 16 page funeral program contains details of both the private memorial service as well the much larger public service at Morehouse College. The program also features a three page eulogy a timeline of his greatest achievements in civil rights and three more pages of quotes from his many inspiring speeches. In many of these King directly addresses the possibility he would one day be killed for the movement he led. One quote dated 1962 reads: ''It may get me crucified. I may even die. But I want it said even if I die in the struggle that 'He died to make men free''.

A memorial card is also included with a memorial poem commemorating King's life and achievements "From Montgomery to Memphis" printed inside. The card references many of MLK's most famous speeches including his "I Have A Dream" speech from the March on Washington in 1963. The last two documents come from an NAACP fundraising drive in the aftermath of Dr. King's assassination: a poster with the photo-illustrated portrait of Dr. King and the words "He Had a Dream" along with a typed signed letter from NAACP President Roy Wilkins. The flier lists King and a dozen other slain civil rights workers including Medgar Evers asking "They also had dreams . . . how many more" On the final page it asserts that "Together--black and white--we shall overcome." No other examples of poster found at any institution or library as per OCLC. Crease down center of poster. Light discoloring of letter. All materials in very good condition. unknown books

"Vietnam is Upon Us" February 6 1968. King's pivot from Civil Rights leader to foreign policy critic may have been the catalyst for his adversaries who feared his influence on the domestic and international stages. The last speech "Vietnam is Upon Us" was delivered just two months before his assassination outside of the Lorraine Motel.
The Clergy and Laymen Concerned About Vietnam or CLCAV was a leading multi-faith organization that used its moral authority to protest the Vietnam War and advocate for peace. Kuczynski 1794. Title within woodcut historiated border showing Adam and Eve preacher Luther at pulpit naked figures entering Hell looking back at Moses and the Tables and St. George slaying a dragon.

Luther's writing deals with the three oldest creeds the Apostolic the Athanasian and the Ambrosian "Te deum laudamus" translated into German by Luther. The beautiful woodcut border shown in Johannes Luther plate 53 shows the fall and redemption: Adam and Eve at the tree of wisdom eating apples that the serpent offers them. What follows is the drastic expulsion from paradise by horned devils and the severe lords Moses and Aaron who reproachfully show the tablets of the law with the ten commandments. On the right then the crucifixion of Christ who takes away the sins again and below the risen one who defeats the devil with a large spear Moses' tablets of the law also break - an allusion to the time of the New Covenant "Sub gratia" which replaces the "tempus sub lege" the Old Testament covenant of man with God.

Hans Weiss was the first printer in Berlin in 1540.
