It provides the miles operated by different railroads and gives data on the financial their performance. These efforts in providing financial information on railroads would ultimately lead to providing credit ratings on corporates and governments. The goal of this bill in the House of Representatives was to connect the Atlantic and Pacific with a railroad. Specifically this undertaking was to construct a railroad and electric telegraph from the Mississippi to the Pacific Ocean. Whitney seems to have played a critical role in this process and started to work on the railroad project as early as 1841. The pamphlet contains a lot of information on early railroad issues especially imports and exports.

Entitled “S.G.P.R. 11.4.11†In British dating usage this is: “11 April 1911â€. Has been folded for mailing which has resulted in a crease across the body of the menu. The standing figure straddling the second and third flatbeds is Harry A. Ivatt the great British designer of railway engines and the Chief Mechanical Engineer of the British Great Northern Railway seated beside him is his son with a small dog—identified by a previous owner of the object and a member of the Ivatt family. Evidently some sort of club or society possibly a miniature railway society. The menu is most tempting—among items proffered Hors d'oeuvre variés Roast Beef Spare-rib of Pork Pigeon Pie Ham Tongue Boned Fowls Roast Fowls Charlotte Russe Tartlets Violet Meringue etc.The verso has ink notes and a penciled signature which appear to refer to the piece being mailed from Britain and received in British Columbia. The pencil signature is of a W. C. Morris who signs as president of the S.G.P.R. Walton, Aylesbury [Buckinghamshire, U.K.]: : S.G.P.R.,. unknown

A small quarto of 9 by 5 5/8 inches with heavy wear to the cloth at the head and heel of the spine such that the cloth is worn down to the edges of the text block. The cloth is also worn through in several spots at the lower edges of the boards. The upper 1 1/2 inches of both joints are splitting from their respective boards. Without a dust jacket. No pagination. Illustrated throughout with two large fold-out maps 8 plans of bridges 5 locomotives from the Hudson River line two from the New Haven Railroad and one from the Long Island Railroad Rail sections from the New York Central Albany and West Stockbridge and Hudson River Railroads 7 drawings for tunnels 3 miscellaneous drawings and 29 profiles. Very Good. 9-1/2 x 15 inches pre-printed form recto and verso with manuscript notations and signatures. Behind glass in aluminum frame. Mellowed creases minimal stains. Agreement made on April 18 1884 by the Land Department of the Railway for the sale of 160 acres for 480 dollars to Mr. Tamas Opsak of Angus Polk County Minnesota. With signatures of CEO James J. Hill a Witness the Commissioner and the Purchaser.<p>The agreement includes the provision that the "premises are sold . for improvement and cultivation" and that the purchaser and heirs "will settle upon said premises and build and occupy a habitable dwelling house thereon and will also plow and put under cultivation not less than 50 acres .<p>The company was formed in 1879 from the assets of the Saint Paul & Pacific. The map which was printed by Baker of Chicago and then married with the text prior to issue at St. Paul delineates the extent of the rail lines in Minnesota with the trunk projected to beyond the Canadian border and branches to Sioux City Superior etc. Included are estimates of profits to be accrued from tonnage as well as the eventual sale of the granted lands.
