A characteristic gathering of the three texts the Bible being the Geneva-Tonson-Junius version in an edition that is a very close reprint of Barker's 1607 edition. The general engraved title is undated and the sectional full title-page for the NT is dated 1611 but the printer's colophon at the end is dated 1612. The text of the Apocrypha is included as a part of the contiguous whole. The edition of the Genealogies which is here bound prior to the Bible is one of the several folio printings attributed to Beale that are partially sorted as to minute variants in STC and ESTC; however this example does not conform to the variants in ESTC in regard to the line-breaks in the side note on A1V. The present edition of the Sternhold and Hopkins Psalms includes some music settings. This is among the last folio London printings of the Geneva text the standard text of 16th century Protestantism and the text referenced by Shakespeare Donne Bunyan et al. 17229900002372London: James and John Knapton et al. 1722. Hardcover. Maps engravings. Folio. Two large volumes in original full leather bindings. Title pages are printed in red and black with an elegant full-page copper engraving of Camden as the frontispiece of the first volume. There are 50 double-page maps of the English counties Ireland Scotland and 'the Islands'; six of the maps are folding. There are also twelve large full-page engravings and numerous smaller engravings in the text. There is a comprehensive index and the errata page is present. A previous owner has reinforced the hinges with linen-like binding tape. The boards are quite worn and rubbed but a competent bookbinder could restore both bindings. The contents are remarkable clean with only occasional foxing and a few stained pages. The maps by the cartographer Robert Morden and which are usually removed and sold individually are all in excellent condition. Overall a good set. William Camden 1551-1623 was an English antiquary and historian who during the reign of Queen Elizabeth travelled throughout England collecting material for 'Britannia' which was first published in 1586. Initially written in Latin it is a survey of the British islands; its archaeology geography institutions monetary system and inhabitants 'chiefly intended for the instruction of foreigners' or so Gibson states in his Preface to this edition. It was first translated into English in 1610 probably under Camden's direction see Ency. Brit. 11th vol. V p. 101. Gibson's revision was first published in 1695. Our set is the undated 'Second Edition' but by comparing particulars with available bibliographical resources we believe it was published in 1722.

As is inevitable with a Bible of this age there are also tiny tears nicks and edgewear and a general darkening of the pages nevertheless s a very nice example. This edition of the Geneva Bible received the nickname Breeches Bible because on its erroneous translation of Genesis Chapter 3 Verse 7. The text reads: 'Then the eyes of them both were opened and they knew that they were naked and they sewed figge tree leaves together and made themselves breeches.' Perkins 1558-1602 was one of the most popular voices of his time speaking from a Calvinist puritan point of view; while he could be virulently anti-Catholic he did not believe in repudiating the English church only in reforming it. According to DNB "The genius of Perkins's work did not lie in its originality—his theology represents a conventional recital of Calvinist scholasticism in virtually every respect. His gift lay rather in bringing to a broad audience a variety of theological and moral issues popularizing essentially technical discussions and therefore as Fuller observed humbling 'the towering speculations of philosophers into practice and morality.'" The present work spread his polemical influence beyond England to the Continent; even the Catholic bishop William Bishop admitted he had "not seene any book of like quality published by a Protestant to contain either more matter or delivered in better method." Both the 1597 first edition and our 1598 second printing are rare: no other copies of either edition are recorded at auction by RBH or ABPC in the past 50 years. John Legat unknown

Rarissima. View of the feast of St. Andrew in Amalfi , taken from a drawing by Louis Jean Desprez. Amalfi celebrates St. Andrew, patron saint of the city, twice a year, on Nov. 30, the other June 27 anniversary of the miracle that saved the city from the invasion of Amalfi pirate Kair -Ad- Din said Barbarossa in 1544. St. Andrew is the patron of fishermen from all over the world, fishmongers and all those that have to do with fishing . The celebrations of November 30 , participates in the entire population, and it is on this occasion that happens the "miracle of St. Andrew " , in many ways very similar to the miracle of the liquefaction of the blood of San Gennaro.Likely that the realized design Desprez during his trip to Italy, during which describes a lot of places in southern Italy , then iconographic basis for the " Voyage Pittoresque " by the Richard de Saint-Non.Aquatint printed with bistro ink, slightly trimmed within the marginal line, small cracks of paper, otherwise in excellent condition. An extremely rare work. Frölich, Johan Fredrik Martins gravyrer, Stockholm, 1939, 291 II.

Hans Gram played organ in the late 18th century. The Pierce family's early days in America perhaps coming as early as about 1620 were spent largely in New Hampshire and Massachusetts and their legacy includes Benjamin Pierce governor of New Hampshire 1827-1830 as well as ten generations spent in what is now an historic landmark of seventeenth-century architecture currently serving as a museum in Dorchester Massachusetts. It is difficult to place exactly which Benjamin Pierce and James Pierce this copy belonged to in the large and lively family. Evans 22351 Printed by Joseph Bumstead for David West unknown books

1956755j1601Mexico City Mexico: Culinary Arts Institute. Very Good with no dust jacket. 1956. Second Edition. Hardcover. Offers authentic recipes from every region of the Mexican Republic. Adapted for use in the United States Central and South America. Author 1899-1968 "was a Mexican cook researcher writer and teacher. She was a pioneer of Mexican gastronomy and an entrepreneur of Mexican cuisine." - Wikipedia. "Before Rick Bayless before Diana Kennedy Josefina Velázquez de León was the sage of the Mexican kitchen Mexico's original celebrity chef." - Lesley Tellez. "Between the 1930s and 1960s she published over 140 cookbooks ran a cooking academy and hosted TV and radio shows. She is the woman responsible for giving a national face to regional Mexican cuisine." - laplazala on Instagram. "Her most important book is her only bilingual work the 'Mexican Cook Book Devoted to American Homes' published in 1947. Decades later it remains a classic. In a clear approachable tone Josefina breaks down iconic recipes such as tomato-infused Mexican rice refried beans chilaquiles and mole poblano. She traveled throughout Mexico and collected home cooks' recipes into books unifying what was then a disparate collection of locally known dishes. No one has matched her output and zeal or done more to shape Mexican food's culinary identity." - Lesley Tellez. Our research suggests this example is a slightly renamed second edition of the 1947 first edition mentioned above. 10-320 pp. Detailed Table of Contents at back. Light wear to original dark cerulean cloth lettered and ruled in gilt. Binding intact. Contents uniformly tanned with age remarkably clean and unmarked. No dust jacket presumably as issued. A rare and wonderfully preserved example of this Mexican epicurean classic. 19.6 x 14.5 cm. Axford p. 269. ; Drawings; 8vo . Culinary Arts Institute hardcover
