Signé en bas Le Moult Très belle composition onirique et légèrement érotique mêlant à la fois sensualité et surréalisme. Deux femmes coiffées de chapeaux étranges (comme Le Moult sait les imaginer), seins nus. Peintre de l'Ecole Belge, Christian Le Moult, né en 1941, a été formé à l'Académie de Liège (1965) où il obtint le prix Watteau. Kristian Le Moult ne traite que d'un seul sujet : la femme. On peut même dire : une seule et même femme, écrit Michel Hubin, puisque son monde pictural est totalement occupé par une Vénus que Thomas Owen a décrite comme «pâle, immobile, inodore». L'écrivain a relevé encore le caractère théâtral du cadre dans lequel cette femme est présentée et l'insistance des effets de séduction que le peintre lui prête. Le Moult, qui utilise une technique soigneuse jusqu'à la minutie, éveille sans doute un trouble chez certains en répétant son personnage fétiche, verrouillé (regard absent - fixe ou clos - lèvres charnues mais fermées) de femme offerte, bi-sexuelle, surchargée de bijoux étranges et d'attributs martiaux. Interrogé sur l'origine de cet univers, le peintre consent : J'exprime sans doute un refus du réel quelque part. Son refuge, il le trouve dans cette peinture qui serait hyperréaliste si le modèle ne relevait du fantastique littéraire, dans un fantasme récurrent qui veut accréditer l'existence d'une grande prêtresse prostituée dans une secte imaginaire... Women's in Sciences Sepia photograph circa 1860-1880 identified in manuscript at the upper left "State Eclectic Medical Society at Worthington" depicting approximately twenty five women alongside male practitioners in Worthington Ohio an early center of Eclectic medical organization just north of Columbus Ohio. The image documents a rare mixed gender professional gathering at a moment when women's participation in formal medical education remained severely restricted under prevailing institutional norms. Within the dominant nineteenth century medical establishment women were largely excluded from training and professional societies; however the State Eclectic Medical Society of Ohio and the broader Eclectic movement created alternative pathways into medical study. These networks were closely tied to reformist traditions that challenged orthodox practice and opened limited but meaningful access to women prior to the broader professionalization of female physicians following mid century breakthroughs such as the graduation of Elizabeth Blackwell in 1849.<br /> <br /> Original Photograph. Photo shows about 25 women along with their male peers. The the first woman graduated medical school in the 1850s. The Eclectic Medical Society was notable for accepting female students before most women were allowed to study medicine.<br /> <br /> The photograph reflects the intellectual and institutional culture of Eclectic medicine a distinctly American medical movement that drew on botanical therapies Native American knowledge systems and the herbal tradition associated with Samuel Thomson. In contrast to orthodox allopathic medicine Eclectic practitioners emphasized plant based remedies and a more flexible therapeutic philosophy which correlated with a greater willingness to admit women into study and practice. The presence of a substantial number of women within this group suggests not only participation but active integration within the society's professional sphere offering visual evidence of gender inclusion within an otherwise exclusionary nineteenth century medical landscape. As a primary source the photograph provides direct documentation of women's early entry into organized medical communities in the United States capturing both the social composition and institutional networks that facilitated their participation. It is particularly valuable for research in women's medical history alternative medical movements and the development of professional education outside orthodox channels illustrating how reformist medical systems functioned as critical entry points for women prior to broader legal and institutional change. Women in Science Marie Curie Lise Meitner Women's History Women scientists press photo archive documenting how newspapers and syndication services translated female expertise into public image culture in the decade spanning the late interwar and immediate postwar years when scientific authority remained coded as male and women researchers were still introduced to mass audiences as exceptions. Six press photographs center on Marie Curie Lise Meitner Annie Jump Cannon and Gloria Hollister four figures linked to radioactivity nuclear physics astronomy and zoology. <br /> <br /> Photo archive of 6 silver gelatin press photographs ranging from 3 x 5 to 8 x 10 inches various U.S. press agencies 1936-1946. Several retain typed or printed versos with agency text. A 1936 photograph shows Gloria Hollister reading a map posed for press circulation beside copy announcing that the "lady explorer starts for jungles of Guiana" and identifying her as the youngest research associate and fellow of the New York Zoological Society a caption that joins scientific credentialing to expedition publicity. Two photographs concern Marie Curie: a 1937 press reproduction of an earlier laboratory image showing Curie at work in a rudimentary interior issued with text invoking the "humble beginning" from which the work of Pierre and Marie Curie produced a major scientific field; and a King Features Syndicate portrait of Curie seated formally beneath the printed declaration that "men have no monopoly on intellectual pre-eminence and achievement in science and art." A 1936 press photograph of Annie Jump Cannon presents the astronomer whose stellar cataloging underpinned modern classification systems. Two 1946 photographs show Lise Meitner in public honor settings rather than laboratory space one receiving an honorary degree at the University of Rochester from Dean of Women Janet Howell Clark the other made after her selection as "Lady of the Year" by the Women's National Press Club.<br /> The archive spans years in which women scientists entered the public press not as members of an ordinary professional class but through narrativized forms of exception and each figure here is positioned within a different media script. 1920201111920. Nurses Photo Album. This photo album which dates back to the 1920s depicts a crew of young women both studying and working as nurses in Chester Pennsylvania. Archive of 40 silver gelatin photographs ranging in size from large format photos of 5" x 8" to 2.75" x 3.75". Album is 7.25" x 10" inches and has textured black covers and a black interior with photos adhered and a tight binding. This album depicts a group of young nurses at work and studying at Crozer Hospital in Chester Pennsylvania which is now part of Crozer-Chester Medical Center. In addition to group shots of the nurses in uniform lined up as well as group shots of them studying and reading at a large table there are also individual shots of nurses taking care of patients and caring for newborns. One impressive image shows a young woman handing a surgical tool to a doctor performing surgery in an operating room. All are wearing face masks and smocks as they operate on a patient. Other photos feature nurses checking pulses caring for patients in bed and posing in front of the hospital or sitting in a garden. Also included are exterior shots of Crozer Hospital and photos of young doctors posing with a team of nurses in front of the Crozer Hospital main entrance sign. A photo of a 1920s ambulance with Crozer Hospital printed on the side is also featured with an ambulance driver and a doctor. The group shot consists of 19 nurses posed with a doctor and 19 nurses sitting around a table reading. Additional photos feature nurses posing alongside a Model T as well as sledding relaxing in a garden and posing outside of a house. Several photos are dated "December 1922" in pencil beneath them. Pages have minor chipping at edges but does not affect the image. Overall album is in very good condition. unknown
