[Giunti agricoltura] (cm.21,5) Solida legatura originale in piena pergamena realizzata con un folgio manoscritto del XIV-XV secolo, poco leggibile per sbiaditura e difetti agli angoli. dorso rifatto nel XIX sec. in pergamena antica. -cc.20nn., cc.222, cc.125 + 1c. con al verso la marca tipografica. il colophon è a c. 125 recto. Alcune figure nel testo con terreni agricoli, mietitura, schemi ecc. opera classica, copia dell'edizione del 1515 con l'aggiunta dei commentari di Columella e Palladio con le note del Beroaldo. Raccoglie le massime opere antiche di agricoltura, sui lavori dei campi, sulla caccia, pesca, cibi, vino, villa ecc.nel testo alcuni passaggi in greco. 18609034New York: Lith. of W. Faust 105 Nassau St 1860. Broadside wine list 25.5 x 15.5 cm. 1 page. Porcelain card decorated in chromolithograph with text in blue and red. A very early wine list from an important New York hotel and dining establishment. The hotel was at the corner of Broadway and Eleventh Street across from Grace Church and Rectory. Both the hotel and the church were designed by the architect James Renwick Jr. Named for its original owner Denis Julien the St. Denis Hotel opened in 1853 just in time for the Crystal Palace Exhibition. The building was leased to William Taylor in 1875 who incorporated the Taylor Saloon into the facility. The list features Clarets from Finke Merman of Bordeaux mostly from 1847 and 1848. And French whites including 1847 Latour Blanche and 1847 d'Yquem. Champagne Sherries and Madeiras are also included. A solid piece of printing from a firm more known for fruit labels. Verso contains an unattributed primitive pencil drawing of a horse. Some darkening to the top edge of the recto. Lith. of W. Faust, 105 Nassau St unknown

Four handwritten invoices or envoi each 21 x 13.5 cm. on stationery with the blindstamp of Normand & Duplessy Entrepot Transit & Cammoinage and with the oval ink stamp of same. Receipts for four simultaneous purchases of wine from the Bordeaux wine merchant Maison Clossman each for delivery to a different palace of Emperor Napoleon III: Palais des Tuileries Palais de L'Elysée Palais de St. Cloud Palais de Fontainebleau. The items are numbered across the four invoices in consecutive order with one hundred seven items in all. A total of one hundred seven items most large quantities in barrels or cartons of fifty bottles each. The fourth and final invoice contains an additional stamp in green ink "Maison de ill. Service de la Regie de Palais de Fontainbleu". Folded with creases. Near fine. Maison Clossman & Cie unknown books

Con marche del Giolito in xilografia sul frontespizio e sull'ultima pagina (ultima pagina che reca anche - ripetuti - i dati editoriali del front.). Volgarizzamento dei venti libri delle "Geoponiche" (raccolta di scritti antichi dei Greci sull'agricoltura, raccolti e rielaborati intorno al 950 d.C. per volere dell'imperatore Costantino Porfirogenito). Numerosi sono i riferimenti alla gastronomia e alcuni libri sono dedicati al vino. Il volume si presenta con la legatura originale cinquecentesca, scurita e sgualcita, le carte presentano aloni e bruniture marginali; su 23 carte è presente un camminamento di tarlo nell'angolo superiore esterno (margine bianco); la carta P6 presenta uno strappo riparato, con minima perdita al titolo corrente e alla prima linea di testo. Condizioni non irreprensibili ma volume affascinante. poiché - come raramente accade, soprattutto per questi manuali d'agricoltura che venivano usati come strumenti da lavoro - si presenta nello stato cinquecentesco in ogni sua componente. Notazione manoscritta coeva sul frontespizio: Ad usum Curtij et amicorum.

Although aged and dogeared the eight pages carrying the accounts are in reasonable condition with all texts clear and complete although the last leaf of the eight has the lower third cut away. In remains of original vellum binding with '17 Maij j683' on front board. The pages are variously paginated in a contemporary hand between 245 and 274. Among the accounts are those of Thomas Stanhope; William Sacheverell; Samuel Chase churchwarden of Strapton; Alderman Carter; Reginald Cynder; Captain John Every; William Cavendish of Dovebridge; Mr Beaumont of Barrow; churchwardens of Feston; John Harpur; Brooke Boothby; Mr Moseley of Roulston; Samuel Orme churchwarden of Broadfall; Mr Charles Cogge of Yeildersley; Hill Francis of Derby; Henry Keys; 'ffor ye funerall of Mr James'; John Bainbrigge; 'ffor ye: funerall of Mr Sheppard'; Mr Mellor of Ashborne; 'ffor the funerall of Mr Burton of Weston July 9o: 1710:'; William Gilbert; Robert Bingham; Captain Hopkinson; William Chambers; Simon Dogg. The itemised entries include charges for 'Lisbon' 'Canary' 'wt: wine' 'french wine' 'Vinegar' 'Rhenish' 'Lemons' and 'Galetia wt: wine'. Substantial sums are spent with a couple of accounts totaling around £40 and one containing about fifty items. A great number of other pages of the volume have been cut out and the eight surviving leaves of accounts are followed by one complete leaf and three parts of leaves on which the semi-literate family of John Smith whose signature is on the back cover has recorded births and other family events between 1772 and 1821. The first entry reads 'Joseph Smith Build sic my House In the Year of our Lord 1772 Paid Mr. Ford For Bricks 16 Thousand At 18 Shillings Per Thousand £8 18s 0d Flour Bricks £1 1s 0d In Total All £40 0s 0d'.
