35601271, Leyde, 25 octobre 1615; in-4, vélin ivoire moderne 6 ff., n.ch., 65 pp., 1 p. n.ch. Landwehr Emblem and fable books in the Low countries 292.- Oberlé 1032.
1890007068Paris: Lemercier 1890. First Edition. Stab binding. String ties. Very Good. N.d. circa 1890. Oblong 13 by 17 cm. Unpaginated 16 leaves of card stock each featuring a chromolithographed color plate of children playing sports and games including hoops bouncing a ball a raquet game called "Le Volant" trotting jump rope swings or alternatively imitating adults such as pretending to perform a baptism or a wedding play-acting as a doctor or merchant and as a photographer back when photographic equipment was far more daunting than that of the 20th century we are more familiar with or simulation a carriage ride in the park. The promotion of the company's product in these illustrations was occasional and subtle with a sign in the background or a bottle of wine here or there. The coloring is very rich and bright. Cover is illustrated with cherubs carrying the flags of ten European nations and marching in a procession. At the head of the parade is a cherub satyr playing a flute while to the side is a cherub atop a barrel holding a scepter and laurel of grape leaves. Posada was an Iberian wine house based in Paris with branches in Lille Nice and Trouville. Scarce with no institutional holdings evidenced on OCLC First Search. Condition: Leaves or plates loose at bottom with the binding holding almost entirely by the top ribbon hole. Scattered light soiling never disconcerting. Plates as already indicated are bright and vivid. Lemercier unknown
1958203391958. Meaker Marijane writing as Vin Packer and Ann Aldrich; Torres Tereska; Marchal Lucie; Christian Paula. Lesbian pulp novels 1958-1961. These works document lesbian representation in midcentury pulp fiction through novels written by women a distinct subset of the genre that offered alternative portrayals of same-sex relationships during a period of widespread censorship and medicalization of homosexuality. Issued within commercial paperback publishing these texts present narratives centered on identity emotional experience and interpersonal relationships providing evidence of how women authors approached lesbian subject matter with greater emphasis on character interiority and in some cases less punitive narrative outcomes. The material supports research into LGBTQ literary history gender and authorship and the development of lesbian-focused narratives in mid-twentieth-century print culture.<br /> <br /> Five mass market paperback volumes published between 1958 and 1961 each approximately 200 pages and measuring about 4.75 x 7 inches. 1 Packer Vin Marijane Meaker. The Evil Friendship. Greenwich Conn: Fawcett Publications 1958. First printing. Follows two teenage girls exploring romantic attachment marketed as "Vin Packer's latest study of the tragedy of forbidden love." 2 Torres Tereska. The Dangerous Games. Greenwich Conn: Fawcett Publications 1961. Second printing. Centers on a married woman in Paris entering a polyamorous relationship and recognizing same-sex desire promoted as "The unorthodox love experiences of a young French woman." 3 Marchal Lucie. The Mesh. New York: Bantam Books 1959. New Bantam edition. Translation of a French novel depicting a relationship between two women with cover text describing "strange hidden passions. women living in a forbidden world." 4 Christian Paula. Another Kind of Love. Greenwich Conn: Fawcett Publications 1961. First Crest printing. Set in Hollywood following a writer and an actress in a same-sex relationship framed as "Women in Love with each other." 5 Aldrich Ann Marijane Meaker. We Too Must Love. Greenwich Conn: Fawcett Publications 1958. First printing. A nonfiction-inflected narrative drawing on lived experience introduced by the author as "the whys and wherefores of Lesbian life in New York City-as I have known it."<br /> <br /> These publications emerged within a pulp marketplace that relied on sensational marketing while operating under restrictions on explicit representation shaping how lesbian relationships could be depicted and circulated. Women authors such as Marijane Meaker writing under multiple names contributed to a shift toward more self-directed portrayals of lesbian identity while other writers expanded geographic and thematic scope across American and European settings. The presence of multiple works by women in a single grouping highlights a less dominant but significant strand of authorship within the genre. Together these texts provide primary evidence for the study of lesbian representation publishing practices and readership in the decades preceding broader public visibility of LGBTQ communities including developments associated with the Stonewall Riots. Light wear to covers with minor rubbing; textblocks tight and interiors clean. Overall very good condition. unknown

4971Photographers and compiler uncredited. Large album format 30 x 23.5 cm. 23 leaves 19 with black-&-white photographs. Captions in English.Collection of photographs dating variously from the middle years of the last century assembled evidently for an English-speaking audience and providing an overview of the cellar maturation monitoring and bottling operations of the German sparkling wine specialist Henkell & Co. Famously known as the Schloß palace the complex on view was built in the Wiesbaden suburb of Biebrich between 1907 and 1909 by the architect Paul Bonatz 1877-1956 to the specifications of Otto Henkell 1869-1929. Henkel & Co. more than weathered World War II. It does not appear that the family sought ties with the National Socialists but they didn't have to. Otto's daughter Anna Elisabeth Annalies 1896-1973 married the future NS foreign minister Joachim von Ribbentrop who became a principal investor in the firm. It is worth remembering that Germans have always appreciated sparkling wine and a great deal of it was drunk in the domestic market during war time especially after the regime abolished the tax on Deutscher Sekt and Schaumwein. In 1952 Annalies petitioned for her son Rudolf to regain partial control of the company and the West German courts ruled in their favor. Henkell & Co. continued to produce Henkell Trocken under its own name until the sale of the winery in 1986. Little is ascertainable regarding the origins of the album. Otto Henkel--the elder Otto's nephew son of his brother Karl--is present in the portrait collection of company managers on the final leaf of photographs but his presence spans many years. The vintage labels have not yet been applied to bottles shown in a production line on photograph fifteen. Possibly automobiles of ca. 1950--including a white roadster--are depicted in an aerial photograph of the Schloß though sufficient details are undiscernable. And a Bizerbo scale shown in the seventeenth photograph was no longer maufactured by 1951 though of course it may have been in use well before being captured by the photographer. Unique; well-mounted and artful arrangement of professional images celebrating a revered German wine house very likely as it looked before during and immediately after the Second World War. Buff paper age-toned. Brown paper wrappers lightly worn sewn with a brown cord; head and foot of spine lightly chipped. Helmut Arntz. Bibliografia: F.
