First edition of this surprisingly uncommon and detailed archaeological study examining the Indigenous Hawaiian’s who worked and lived at the Hudson’s Bay Company Fort Vancouver along the Columbia River when the area was still the Oregon Country controlled by Great Britain. The majority of the Hudson’s Bay Hawaiian employees lied in their own village several hundred feet southeast of the Fort along the Columbia possibly established before 1829 and consisted at their height of at least 122 male Hawaiians. They and their families served as labor force worked the farm and also labored in the Fort itself. A vibrant depiction of the great city of San Antonio Texas produced by the Missouri Pacific Railroad during the latter part of the Roaring Twenties. The promotional work is profusely illustrated with photographs accompanied by text touting the many advantages of the Alamo City. The images feature well-known attractions such as the Alamo Alamo Plaza various missions and the downtown commercial buildings intermixed with lesser-known aspects of San Antonio life such as the golf and polo scenes Olmos Dam Fort Sam Houston Medina Lake and others. The photographs includes an "Aerial View of the Heart of San Antonio." The Missouri Pacific also includes a bit about itself with photographs of the "Sunset Special" locomotive and the Missouri Pacific Lines' Bridge across the Mississippi River at Memphis plus a map of the line on the last page. A good book in a fair to poor jacket. Book: bending at the lower corners and a warp that pulls the back cover down and the front cover up - noticeable at the top corner. Minor soiling and darkening to the light cloth and some sign of foxing at the text block edges but not carried into the pages. Solid in binding and hinges but lacking tightness. An unmarked copy clean endpapers. Dustjacket with original 1.75 price intact. The flaps are in the best condition on this jacket clean and bright orange with black trees and lettering. The rear panel has a long and jagged tear beginning at the head of the spine and proceeding to the center of the panel. Other shorter tears to the edges and folds and an overall darkening to the panels from age and handling. Musty smell but no visible water damage to book or jacket. 178 numbered pages with an unusual number of blanks at front and rear. Great black and white illustrations by Clark. A very attractive single stereocard image of the Central Pacific Railroad's "Long Ravine Trestle Bridge." The bridge is located in Nevada County California in the Sierra Nevada mountain range just west of the Nevada state line. The image comes from a set sixty-two stereocards created by Thomas Houseworth & Company for the railroad some time after the railroads completion in 1869. According to the website of the Central Pacific Railroad www.cprr.org the Houseworth company produced more than one hundred such stereocards for the railroad including more than a dozen views of the 878- foot long Trestle Bridge. Good only. <br /> <br /> Promotional broadside for the Chicago Rock Island & Pacific Railroad that operated from roughly 1850-1970 largely in the Midwest. Features a paper-cut illustration that was created on the occasion of the first trip made by steam-powered passenger cars in New York in 1831 before the company's incorporation. This broadside however was not issued until several decades later. The extensive railway inspired the tune "Rock Island Line" covered by country crooners Johnny Cash and Lead Belly. <br /> <br /> No separately cataloged copies in OCLC as of May 2026. View of the burial ground with several structures visible. Taken at ground level centered and from a middle distance.<br /> <br /> Frank Jay Haynes 1853-1921 was the official photographer for the Northern Pacific Railway and later for Yellowstone National Park. Haynes took many noteworthy photographs at various locations along the Northern Pacific Yellowstone Park Line. Haynes travelled to Yellowstone in 1882 and captured many images of the emerging park. He opened his Log Cabin Studio the following year at Mammoth Hot Springs and continued to photograph the park for many years to come.
