No. 115 published on 1 February 1923 - Taisho 12. Some ocassional foxing to margins and covers. The original metal staples which were rusted have been removed and are now sewn with silk spines are a little worn with the odd chip but generally very good. Two issues of the journal "Rekishi Shashin" Historic Photographs- no. 112 Nov. 1922 and no. 115 February 1923. The journal was published from 1913 onwards by entrepreneur Akiyoshi Zentaro 1866-1924 and was one of Japan's first graphic magazines focusing on the use of photographic illustrations. The magazines which were aimed at a broad popular audience feature brightly coloured covers and traditional colour woodblock frontispieces followed by black-and-white photos illustrating a wide range of newsworthy topics including political events sports and popular culture. <br> <br>The eclectic contents give a wonderful insight into early 1920s Japanese popular culture. Two 1950s Chinese personal file cards of two Chinese PLA officers original black and white ID photos in military uniforms laid down upper right corner with official seal on the photo the card has been neatly handwritten in ink by an officer from the Political Section of no. 32 Vehicle Regiment two binder holes left margin loss at upper right corner of one photo overall in very good condition. Text in Chinese. 16.3 x 24.7cm. Officer 李秀峰 Li Xiufeng former name 李建才 Li Jiancai archival file no. 0704. He was 25 years old when he filed his personal information on 10th March 1953. Li served as a corporal at the no. 3 Battalion no. 7 Company of no. 32 Vehicle Regiment. A detailed personal background check shows that Li came from a wealthy farmer family in Shandong Province and well educated prior to his joining the army in August 1950. He studied at Jinan Normal College as a qualified radio communications officer. His background and security check appears to have been without a problem. Documents submitted were verified. His three school mates' information were also documented. Interesting one of them were former Nationalist but worked at Jinan Telecommunication Bureau at that time. <br> <br>Officer 熊烈雲 Xiong Lieyun former name 熊烈元 Xiong Lieyuan archival file no. 1003. He was 22 at that time with six fingers and tall as his physical characteristics. Xiong served as a corporal at the Maintenance Company of no. 32 Vehicle Regiment. A detailed personal background check shows that Xiong came from a middle peasant family in Anhui Province and he was a junior high school graduate. He had been proactive and well behaved since joining the army in 1949. Circa 昭和 35. 1960. 21 pamphlets with colour photographic illustrations varied sizes and pages a few chips and tears but generally in very good condition. This interesting collection of Hitachi home appliances pamphlets from the 1960s covers washing machines black and white televisions refrigerators cooling fans toasters sewing machines electric heaters water pumps and florescent lights. Many of them have stamps of an electric retail shop in Matsuzaka City in Mie Prefecture. The pamphlets provide interesting snap shots on evolution on electric home appliances and their advertisement. Their prices were quite high for ordinary consumers of that period and often exceeded monthly wages. Conjoined triptych of ink and watercolour woodblock prints trimmed to the margins together 35 x 63.3 cms backed onto Japanese scrap paper with some writing title and descriptive cartouches top right red censor's stamp lower left and artist's signature lower right some paper abrasions wear at the joins slight bleeding of ink and offsetting on the verso but overall in good condition. Vivid depiction of the Battle of Seonghwan also known as the battle of Asan in Korea July 29 1894 the first major land battle on of the Sino-Japanese War 1894-1895. Chinese troops are seen fleeing the charging Japanese marines and the silhouettes of airborn casualties are depicted in the bright orange explosion. <br> <br>Yōsai Nobukazu 1872-1944 was active towards the very end of the ukiyo-e period when the popular days of this style were over. Printmakers like Yōsai struggled and he survived as an artist by depicting the Sino-Japanese and Russo-Japanese wars. Yōshū Chikanobu was his teacher active 1838-1912 and Yōsai Nobukazu was considered his best student. The majority of his prints were triptychs of battles of the Sino-Japanese war. A set of unpublished mimeographed Japanese military documents containing detailed information about various parts of the Tapanuli Regency of Sumatra under Japanese occupation. The four separate volumes cover Tapanuli Regency in general the town of Tarutun Fort de Kock Bukittingi and the wider central west coast region of Sumatra. The volume on Tapanuli is dated August 1942 and the volume of Tarutun October 1942 suggesting that these were compiled a few months after the Japanese invasion of Sumatra. They contain basic information on climate population history customs transport and education. The volume on Tarutun includes a detailed fold-out map of the town and there are also detailed statistical tables on climate agriculture education etc. A rare and important source for researching the wartime history of Indonesia. . This papercut represents the phenomenon of Mao cult one of the most visible feature of the Chinese Cultural Revolution. Ke was accused as spy and was locked up during the Yan'an Rectification Movement in 1942. <br> <br>Issue no. 2 of 红旗 "Red Flag" features a speech delivered by Premier Zhou Enlai on 15 August 1967 criticising Liu Shaoqi. The cards measure 7 x 5cm and are presented in a coloured pictorial card box measuring 15 x 11 x 4.5cm. Lower section of box repaired the lid is soiled and a trifle worn with a small label of the Matsuzakaya Department Store on one side. A lovely 1930s game. This is a beautifully preserved iroha card game set comes complete with 48 picture cards and 48 word cards and 2 spare cards. The pictures were apparently drawn by Onuma Shogon 1899 - 1983 who often painted nature scenes and animals. They reflect the period in Japan when young boys wore short hair and school uniforms and women wore kimonos more often than western dress. <br> <br>The iroha card game is a traditional board game for New Year day holiday when the family get together to have fun. Many children learn to read characters by playing the game and the sayings that appear on these word cards are still used commonly as proverbs in the contemporary Japan. . Four folded leaves 8 pages stapled. Upper paper wrapper heavily foxed with light foxing on other leaves upper wrapper detached but still holding at second staple. Wang Hongwen is portrayed in these writings as a political liar and hypocrite who pretended to be a gentleman while placing himself above Mao and presenting himself as a hero in a bid to seize power.
