Oblong 4to (280 x 175 mm). 52 ff. With 101 very neat drawings in ink, some hand-coloured (blue and yellow). Half morocco, gold-tooled word "album" on front cover. Model album for jewelry, probably from a Parisian luxury jeweler, with 101 ink drawings of jewelry models and designs, showing earrings, brooches, medallions, crucifixes, bracelets, hairpins, badges, clasps, and a diadem, made of silver, gold and platinum, using pearls and precious stones such as rubies and onyx. All drawings are evidently by the same artist. The first 59 drawings are numbered (1-59) and have French annotations in a neat handwriting, providing the name of the jeweler that produces the pictured models, the place where the jeweler is active, and the date when the model first appeared on the market. All jewelers mentioned are from Paris, except for Besson (from Lyon): Grand, Martincourt, Ballanche & Bourdier, Loussel et Vacherot, Galerie Vivienne, Goliat, Magasins du Boulevard des Italiens, and Magasins du Palais Royale. The dates range from 1868 to 1872. The numbered designs are accompanied by a short descriptive text with details about the material and sometimes the popularity of the respective model. The remaining designs without a number and text might be the jeweler's own designs. - In very good condition.

Oblong 4to (290 x 156 mm). With lithographed double-page title (in French and Dutch) and 20 lithographed plates (3 folded). Contemporary giltstamped cloth with the giltstamped arms of Pope Gregory XVI on both covers. All edges gilt. Illustrations for the cavalcade celebrating the 850th anniversary of the arrival of a miraculous statue of the Virgin Mary on a boat in Hanswijk. The statue was transferred to Mechelen in 1273 and became the protector of the city, housed in the Basilica of Our Lady of Hanswijk. From 1738 onwards a grand procession was staged every twenty-five years. The illustrations show soldiers and women on horseback, floats including the kingdom of the saints and the famous giant figures. - Lithographed by Jos. Coomans after drawings by J. J. Vervloet (1790-1869, cf. Thieme/Becker XXXIV, 306). Slight browning and brownstaining; some loss to spine cover, otherwise in good condition. Lipperheide Sl 22. OCLC 78418091.
4to oblong (204 × 260 mm). 50 numbered engraved plates in original hand colour. Contemporary half calf over red paper boards. Rare collection of designs for splendid interior decorations. The set depicts oppulent beds, curtains and entire rooms in the Empire style with French captions and scales. Not seen at auction for more than a century. - The series "Recueil de draperies d'Hallavant" appeared from ca. 1810 to 1839 in 7 "cahiers", each containing between 44 and 50 plates. They were published by Osmont in Paris, and later by Pinsonnière. Copies were sold coloured and uncoloured, with and without a title-page. The series was issued without any dates except for the 7th cahier, which appeared in 1839. The earlier volumes can be dated only based on internal evidence of drapery styles. Judging from the number of plates and the style, the present volume presumably is either cahier 2 or 3. - Extremities rubbed; corners bumped. Occasional light spotting near margins; some plate numbers and captions partly cut; the plates in very good condition. A fine copy of this artistic work essential for the spreading of the Empire style across Europe. This copy does not have the folding plan and very few copies do. RARE. A very heavy book weighing nearly 8.5 kilos - extra postage costs will need to be added. A paper in 'Science' 25/01/2002 by Andy Hector and Rowan Hooper has called this book which influenced Charles Darwin "arguably the first ecological experiment". Darwin in his 'Origin of the Species' refers to an experiment investigating the biology of grassland plants that showed how a greater diversity of grasses planted in experimental plots was responsible for greater production of plant matter but Darwin left no clues as to where or when this experiment was done. Hector and Hooper show that it is Sinclair's 'Hortus Gramineus Woburnensis' which details this experimental garden. First Edition. Half Leather. Good. B. McMillan Hardcover

In Folio (402x273); pagg. (4), pagg. Legatura in mezza pergamena settecentesca e piatti in cartone rigido azzurro. Sguardie rinnovate. Rossetti, III 7023b; Olschki, Choix, XI, 17589.<BR>

12934Austin: Civic Pride Inc. / Clarke Printing 1995. Color printed map on sturdy glossy paper 37.5 x 24 inches with the title sponsor and footer printed in embossed gold foil. Some short heavy creases and rubbing in image area moderate edge wear pinholes in corners. Still very good condition. An eye-catching poster map of Austin Texas in the fledgling years of its tech boom and a very obvious product of the 1990s. Apart from the 1996 calendar at the bottom the poster features rudimentary Photoshop elements and numerous dot-com bubble companies peppered among technology companies that survive to this day. The sponsor of the map is printed between the bottom of the map and the calendar Pro Fasteners and Components on Springdale Road. Austin's identity as "Silicon Hills" began around this period with local business groups hoping to replicate the economic vibrancy enjoyed by the Bay Area's Silicon Valley in earlier decades. The map identifies dozens of companies using an interesting mix of logos corporate headquarters and photographs of actual employees. Some of the imagery is amusing to a larger audience while other images would likely be recognizable strictly to a local audience. The geographic inaccuracies are waved away with a humorous note in the lower right: "Warning.Reality Bytes. So it has nothing to do with this poster."<br /> <br /> The map was designed by Art Director Mark Bruneman and published in Austin in 1995 by Civic Pride Inc. The firm was acquired by Silicon Maps which continues to create similar productions of tech-heavy areas today. Different versions of the present map were apparently issued in the late-1990s. OCLC reports just a single institutional copy of any version of the map issued in 1997 by Civic Pride and held in the Rumsey Collection at Stanford. Civic Pride, Inc. / Clarke Printing unknown
