Generally fine condition.

Stylistically unified fetish album featuring women in various provocative poses and states of undress — all smoking. A collection likely assembled by a fellow fetishist sometime in the late nineties the collection features at least three different photographers and studios all clearly specializing in fetish images if not smoking fetish in particular as well as appropriated photos of famous women smoking Drew Barrymore Melanie Griffith Olivia Newton John Jennifer Connolly Kristin Scott Thomas etc. Most prominently at least two photos are from Edward Luisser's CoherentLight which specialized in smoking fetish images with an additional nine photos by the legendary Eric Knoll. Images from the session in this album were included in his book FETISH GIRLS Taschen 1996. We suspect the majority of the remaining images in the album are by one or both of these photographers though the balance lack stamps or identifying annotations. Nevertheless a striking collection of original professional fetish photography. np hardcover books

According to the Introduction Clyde Waddell was Chief Photographer for the Houston Press before entering the Army where he was attached to the Public Relations Staff of the Southeast Asia Command. After two busy years on documenting action on the Burma front Waddell took the photographs in this album while on leave in Calcutta. "By the time he completed this project which brought him into some of the remotest out-of-bounds areas" writes Preston "he was flooded with requests from Americans and Britishers for copies of his photographs. That is how this album came to be.As a documentary of Calcutta it's tops." The album includes wonderful views of the city and its people including many bustling street scenes buildings Hindustan Building Karnani Estates American Red Cross Burra Club Jain Temple Nimtolla Mosque the Stock Exchange billboards street vendors and performers among them a snake charmer and shops and markets--including a wonderful shot of American GIs browsing at a book stall. There are also scenes of poverty and struggle including striking tram workers homeless people sleeping in the streets an opium den and a woman dying on a sidewalk as people walk by indifferent to her plight. The captions are chatty offering both information and Waddell's personal commentary on the scenes. This particular copy of the album belonged to Lyle Oberwise 1908-1993. Like Waddell Oberwise was a an American Army photographer assigned to the China-Burma-India theater of operations. But he is better known as a prolific Milwaukee street photographer whose work was discovered only upon his death. A collection of thirteen press photographs from the 1930s showing Saudi Arabian leaders during diplomatic visits to Europe. The beautifully sharp and clear photographs give a good impressions of what these events must have been like at the time. Most of the photographs come with the text that would have accompanied them when they were published in a newspaper and are stamped on the back by the press agency that had the rights for publication. We have not been able to find any of these photographs in online archives.Four of the images show Faisal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud 1906-1975 during a diplomatic visit to Great Britain. Faisal was the third son of King Abdulaziz the founder of modern Saudi Arabia. Faisal was very intelligent and was given numerous important duties as a result. He was sent on a five-month long diplomatic visit to Great Britain and France when he was just 13 and achieved his first military successes when he was 16. He succeeded his half brother as king of Saudi Arabia in 1964 and became a well-loved ruler. The present photographs however show his visit to Great Britain in 1939. In particular his visit to the Royal Air Force stations in Middlesex and Northolt where he viewed the Hawker Hurricane planes which he considered to buy for the Royal Saudi Air Force. After his return however he decided against it.The other photographs show Fuad Bey Hamza 1899-1951 the Saudi ambassador in France and Fakry Pacha dates unknown the Egyptian ambassador in France during an Eid al-Fitr celebration in Paris in 1939 a portrait of Sheikh Sir Abdullah al-Salim al-Sabah 1895-1965 the 11th ruler of the Sheikhdom of Kuwait and the Kaaba in Mecca during hajj. Some of the photographs are slightly discoloured or creased around the corners.
