18805684Great Britain:: Original Watercolor c.1880-1900. Fine. Fine original watercolor on rag paper. 25.4 x 17.7 cm. Matted in Rag. Framed in one inch gilt basket weave moulding. Condition: Fine with minor aged paper remains to verso corners from previous mount watermarked 1902. Pathos notwithstanding and made all the more alluring by want of attribution this vivid watercolor scene Lively herd of running Zebras was envisioned and thus executed not by a professional artist field naturalist or explorer but by an amateur or armchair traveler/naturalist /painter. The drama evident yet depiction gentle this watercolor quite plausibly was painted by a young Victorian gentlewoman who would have learned the art of nature painting as was the custom and who would have sought inspiration from the grand natural history color plate volumes of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. This bold and vivid naturalists' display of a tapestry of dappled foliage or the crystalline translucence of disturbed water or the splendid reticulated plumage is clearly stylized by a primitive eye yet executed with an accomplished and refined hand; the technique is learned. The resulting composition is one of dramatic charm. Archivally Framed Original Watercolor, unknown

171962442à Paris: Par La Compagnie des libraires 1719. Fine. Par La Compagnie des libraires à Paris 1719 9 x 16 cm relié New edition after the first very rare published in 1670. Huet's Treatise on the Origin of Novels in the form of a letter to Segrais appears at the end of the first part of Zaïde. Armorial copy of Charlotte Emilie Le Fèvre de Caumartin de La cour de Balleroy daughter of Louis-François Le Fèvre de Caumartin lord of Boissy and wife of the Marquis de la Cour de Balleroy. Feminine arms are rare and sought after as few women formed libraries with their coat of arms. The Marquise de Balleroy who died in 1749 settled in Normandy and maintained an intense correspondence with the highest nobility from which she descended. Full speckled brown calf bindings. Raised band spines with decorative tooling. Morocco title labels in tan volume labels in speckled brown calf. Headcap of volume II split. A brown stain in corner of first 10 leaves of volume I gradually fading this stain recurring later spreading then disappearing. A browner area at edge of right corner of volume I on upper board. Despite some flaws a handsome copy. It is now considered that Zaïde was a collaborative work by Segrais and Madame de La Fayette whose Princess of Clèves would appear in 1678. Segrais was her secretary and it is thought that he provided the materials and historical research while Madame de La Fayette handled the entire writing. The action takes place in Spain in the 9th century. Consalve son of one of the greatest counts of Castile takes in Zaïde daughter of a Muslim prince following a shipwreck. Very quickly he falls in love with her but the two young people do not speak the same language. Par La Compagnie des libraires unknown

You were you are and you always will be my inspiration. Thanks for all you've done - Your friend. Kenny Rogers 1988." The recipient Yousuf Karsh is recognized as one of the leading photographers of the twentieth century. Arriving in Canada in 1924 as an Armenian refugee Karsh eventually settled in Ottawa. Over six decades he mastered the art of portraiture and created a unique chronicle of his time through images of celebrated legends. Some of his most notable subjects include Winston Churchill Audrey Hepburn Martin Luther King Jr. John F. Kennedy and Ernest Hemingway among others. A celebrity in his own right he was an elegant and charming public figure captivating audiences with compelling stories told in images and words. Karsh sought to capture as he put it the “elusive moment of truth†revealing the essential nature of his subjects as reflected in their eyes hands and attitudes. From the collection of Yousuf Karsh with his estate label to the front pastedown. Held by the Estate of Yousuf & Estrellita Karsh; after Yousuf’s death in 2002 passing to Estrellita Karsh; after Estrellita’s death in March 2025 passing to Katherine Getchell. Fine in a fine dust jacket. Jacket design by John Coulter. Accompanied by a typed letter signed by Rogers' assistant regarding the sending of the book and dated February 5 1988 laid in. Your Friends and Mine: A Collection of 80 Photographs 1987 is the second photography book by Kenny Rogers and a natural companion to his earlier Kenny Rogers' America 1986 — pivoting from the landscape and Americana subjects of that debut collection to the world Rogers inhabited most intimately as one of the most celebrated entertainers of his generation: the realm of celebrity portraiture. The oversized volume comprises eighty photographic portraits of some of the most recognizable figures of the era among them Michael Jackson George Burns Elizabeth Taylor Dolly Parton President Ronald Reagan and Larry Bird each accompanied by Rogers's personal recollections of the shoot and the subject — lending the book a warmth and narrative texture that distinguishes it from more impersonal celebrity photography collections. Rogers's unique position as both photographer and peer gave him an access and an ease with his subjects that few professional photographers could have achieved; his friendship with each sitter dissolved the formal distance that typically separates a portrait photographer from a famous subject producing images of unusual candor and psychological intimacy. Rogers had studied the craft seriously under the mentorship of Yousuf Karsh who had taught him to talk to subjects put them at ease keep his eye on their eyes and keep his hand on the shutter release — waiting for the moment of total relaxation before shooting a technique that is visible throughout the collection in the quality of quiet revelation that the best portraits achieve. New English Original bdg. HC. 4to. (32 x 25 cm). In English. 407 p., color ills. Your excellency's obedient servant: A selection of autograph letters to the Ottoman Empire. Ömer M. Koç Collection. Foreword: Bahattin Öztuncay. "Handwritten letters of historically significant personalities have always been highly sought-after collector's items. This passion, which originates in Ancient Greek and Roman periods has gained wide appeal in the 16th century, and continues to our age. In addition to their status as historical documents due to their subject matters, handwritten letters also establish an emotional connection with these eminent personalities. This book features assiduously selected samples from the Ömer M. Koç Collection. These letters dated between 1795 and 1922 are presented in chronological order, and were written in Latin script by a number of prominent and colourful figures including Grand Vizier Mustafa Ressid Pasha, Abdülhamid Efendi - then still a prince, Queen Victoria, Lord Kitchener. While these priceless documents contain some personal feelings and thoughts, for the most part they shed light on the political and cultural relations the Ottoman Empire developed with the Occident. We believe that this publication will greatly benefit our cultural and artistic memory as well as our history and diplomacy. We owe a dept of gratitude to Sinan Kuneralp for his painstaking research, transcription and editing, to Yesim Demir Pöhl for her book design, to Hadiye Cangökçe for her photography, and to the management team of Aygaz A.S. who have greatly contributed to make our project a reality".
